Take note of the fearful size of the clubs that had been used during that conflict, and the explicit violance directed against civilians, and how water was used to perform as a dangerous weapon. I definitely cannot haven been a pleasure to live in those times. the use of gas not to kill but to disorientate the enemy was new for me.
