The only advice I can give you....is regarding the "Seawolves" Fleet...
They use ICQ to communicate, and once you have added ALL the members to your ICQ contact list...(a very time consuming process)..it has always worked very well to find others ready to play. ICQ allows you to open a multi-window'd chat with several people at the same time, which allows all hands to make agreements to game setup options, finding the fastest host and IP address...etc etc...prior to game start |

When I started playing sub simulators with Sub Command i started playing with people on MPlayer witch doesn't exist anymore, but you can compare it to gamespy. Problem... there where not so many people to play with, and problem two, they were not very skilled.
Then I joined a virtual fleet and all those problems vanished ![]() |

I still think that the MP aspect would grow if fleets were to use Gamespy to meet and setup games. You can do all the things you can when meeting on ICQ or mIRC, ie chat before you dive, chat after you dive you to discuss how it went....
Also if you are having a fleet only game you can lock the room.. Since you can have multiple rooms you could have a training room. Think about it someone from the fleet could say "I'll be in Gamespy between X time and Y time, anyone want to train just drop in. No need for checking your IP address to tell someone else etc... Also if you configure your AV and Firewall it shouldn't be a problem with Gamespy. |

There are a number of fleets around. I've joined Global Naval Task Force a new Fleet.
Check them out here: http://www.globalnavalstrikeforce.com/main.htm

![]() Either Gamespy or Hyperlobby are fine for meeting up people but for the reasons above, there you'll only find people who don't want to join a virtual fleet like myself. Well, there is a virtual fleet that joins on Hyperlobby and whose members play with other people (DK something...I apologize to the members of this Fleet for not remembering the full name!!!) but this is the only exception. Well, I played with Furia, Molon and Fish and other members of virtual fleets recently but this came through Commanders Academy & Dive Center...

Maybe CADC will grow into a fleet of freelancers. There's a lot of talent hanging out there.
The current 'war' proves that guys can get it done outside the restrictions and formalities of structured Fleets. The skeletons there and you can hang a lot on the bones of the likes of Molon, OneShot, Fish, JoGary, Furia and MaHuJa (Only to mention some.) ![]()

A closed group not playing anyone else will end up stagnating. Someone once suggested real navies are keeping an eye on what we're doing in the sim community, for just this sort of reason. If it's true or not, who knows.

To pick up the comment from Bellman ...
Given that we do "regular" games (once a week) thanks to Furia, and having the GDT as a testbed for full blown tournaments it is certainly possible to have a group of players available for playing. Given the MP settings for DW (no dedicated server) all you need to do is use the available facilities wisely, most notably the calendar. As the past has proven it is entirely possible to get 8+ people together on a given date with some advance warning and that is certainly needed as a DW match usually takes around 2 hours. If the interest is there I could integrate a system similar to the one used at OrionWarrior ( http://www.orionwarrior.com/html/mod...cs&op=complete ) in the CADC for people to log their stats. Same open system, just for your own entertainment and to compare yourself to others - no ranks, position or whatever dependant on that. But take note if the interest is there ... as the page over at OW clearly shows the interest definitly lacked. |

The structure is in place and growing. :|\
I guess a lot guys are cavalier about cumulative scoring as it smacks of Fleet competitiveness . Event scoring is another thing. ![]() ![]()

I've participated to CADC matches for the past three weekends...very cool!. The CADC does not require any "serious" commitment and as I understood it (Oneshot, please correct it if I'm wrong), you just post your availability there and people then "reserve" the available platforms. Even if there are only three platforms available, people may consider joining multistation on one of it. I personally team up with Goldorak...whatever platform we choose. I can say that it's been a long time since I last played DW on a platform alone. I think multistation should be used more...but this is another issue... ![]()

You are right
![]() Thats what the calendar is for ... post your own availability or set up a day/time for a match, maybe even with your selfmade map (tho thats certainly not required). Past has proven that unless you choose some very weird times you usually get a lot of people wanting to jump in and play. |

I don't see how the pointing system can be a barrier to fleets using Gamespy.
You can create a room on gamespy for which you need a password to get in and these fleets could set up for stat matches where people advance or not as the case maybe. The fact that they are seen on Gamespy and that they could also have open rooms, a sort of "Come and have a go is you think you're hard enough type thing." |
