Unusual wedding: British woman marries her beloved dolphin in Eilat ceremony

Till death do us part? An unusual wedding ceremony was held in the southern resort town of Eilat on Wednesday, as Sharon Tendler, a 41-years-old Jewish millionaire from London married her beloved Cindy, a 35-years-old dolphin, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday.


The groom, a resident of the Eilat dolphin reef, met Tendler 15 years ago, when she first visited the resort. The British rock concert producer took a liking to the dolphin and has made a habit of traveling to Eilat two or three times a year and spending time with her underwater sweetheart.


"The peace and tranquility underwater, and his love, would calm me down," the excited bride said after the wedding.


After a years-long romance, Tendler decided to embark on the highly unusual path of tying the knot with her beloved dolphin. Last week, she approached Cindy's trainer Maya Zilber with the extraordinary request.


Zilber accepted the challenge and "talked the idea over with the fellow," who apparently consented.


'I'm not a pervert'


And so on Wednesday afternoon, the thrilled bride, wearing a white dress, walked down the dock before hundreds of astounded visitors and kneeled down before her groom, who was waiting in the water.


Cindy, escorted by his fellow best-men dolphins, swam over to Tendler and she hugged him, whispered sweet nothings in his ear, and kissed him in front of the cheering crowd.


After the ceremony was sealed with some mackerels, Tendler was tossed into the water by her friends so that she could swim with her new husband.


"I'm the happiest girl on earth," the bride said as she chocked back tears of emotion. "I made a dream come true, and I am not a pervert," she stressed.


Tendler said she and her newly wed husband will probably spend their wedding night bowling.


"But what kind of children would they have?" one of the children in the crowd asked his father.

It is more proof that there are some elements in society who are winning at their war to turn marriage into nothing more than a gimmick. Their goal is to do away with marriage completely,with tactics used that include the guise of equal oppurtunity. WHen they finially suceed 100%, it will be another nail in the coffin of Western Society. THe terrorists are already clinging on to our weaknesses, but it won't be the terorists that finially make us fall - it will be our own doing from within.

This is all just a repeat of history all over again.

It is more proof that there are some elements in society who are winning at their war to turn marriage into nothing more than a gimmick. Their goal is to do away with marriage completely,with tactics used that include the guise of equal oppurtunity.

As someone from a religious background myself, I have always found it amusing how people cry foul about the declining 'sanctaty' of marraige - and yet fail to see the floor in their argument. Unions between people need to have legal recognition in some way. The Christian Church (and I will repeat, I am a member of that church) insisted that the religious concept of marrage be used to denote that legal union - and then wonders why people complain that they are excluded.

If you want to have marrage sacrisant, then lets get rid of it as a legal union and leave marriage to those of us who want that religious ceremonies. That way, Civil partnerships can take their place and people of Hetrosexual, Homosexual or whatever can be together without upseting those of you who think so much of the concept of marrage.

WHen they finially suceed 100%, it will be another nail in the coffin of Western Society.

Its debatable whether Western Society exists to begin with. Many of the values that I consider Western have been distinctly lacking in recent days on this board. And even if I conceed Western Society to exist, I have to question whether Marriage is part of it.

THe terrorists are already clinging on to our weaknesses, but it won't be the terorists that finially make us fall - it will be our own doing from within.

I agree, but I suspect we don't agree by the means. I think we have more to worry about from a change in attitudes towards civil liberties etc then the threat to a tradition which excludes large swathes of westerners anyway.

I find your comments interesting in that you claim to be of Christian faith and yet that faith clearly denouces civil unions in the manner in which you describe??? The bible calls it 'against' nature.

Regardless, the floor you failed to describe is not between partners as you suggest, but you must refocus on the children - that is the real problem That is also the real floor - your future generations. You can see it already today in how this floor is crumbling like never before. The lack of respect, the lack of self worth, the lack of striving to be of value in society, even the lack of responisibilty for ones own actions (always someone elses fault!). This is actually just one tip of the iceberg for children, which includes a multitude of problems from lack of parent/child time when both parents work and dump children off to be raised by almost unknown people - actually I could go on forever on this part, but that would be partially off point. The real issue is the decline of morality that has led many an empire into the ground. No one wants to fight and defend with their life that which they no longer hold dear. Plain and simple truth. To rip of the very core or fabric of society - such as marriage to a dolphin (and to allow it) - is exactly that of advanced decay of society. We will accomplish in less than 300 years, or even perhaps less than 250 years that which took 1000 years in the Roman Empire.

I am off to find a letter on the very subject that can describe things a little more clearly.

She turned up in a dress whilst a mate of hers read out some made up oaths. Its nothing to be worried about.

What I was picking up upon was your suggestion that this is part of a continued assault...which I have interpreted as a reference to other debates on marriage such as Homosexuality, Divorce etc. And it was to that, my response was directed.

I can't find the letter I am looking for yet. It may be at home (if I still have it). I did however come across this one that references some points in this discussion. I think I posted this on this board about 6 months back, but I can't remember, but it is always a good read since it deals with 'Western' Society.

Forgive me for being so blunt, but your reaction to our reelection of President Bush has been so outrageous that I'm wondering if you have quite literally lost your minds. One of Britain's largest newspapers ran a headline asking "How Can 59 Million Americans Be So Dumb?", and commentators in France all seemed to use the same word - bizarre -- to explain the election's outcome to their readers.

In Germany the editors of Die Tageszeitung responded to our vote by writing that "Bush belongs at a war tribunal - not in the White House." And on a London radio talk show last week one Jeremy Hardy described our President and those of us who voted for him as "stupid, crazy, ignorant, bellicose Christian fundamentalists." Of course, you are entitled to whatever views about us that you care to hold. (And lucky for you we Americans aren't like so many of the Muslims on your own continent; as the late Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh just discovered, make one nasty crack about them and you're likely to get six bullets pumped into your head and a knife plunged into your chest.)

Indeed, your hostility to the basic concepts of Judaism and Christianity has literally been written into your new European Union constitution, despite the Pope's heroic efforts to the contrary.

Your rate of marriage is at an all-time low, and the number of abortions in Europe is at an all-time high. Indeed, your birth rates are so far below replacement levels that in 30 years or so there will be 70 million fewer Europeans alive than are alive today. Europe is literally dying. And of the children you do manage to produce, all too few will be raised in stable, two-parent households.

Your economy is stagnant because your government regulators make it just about impossible for your entrepreneurs to succeed - except by fleeing to the United States, where we welcome them and celebrate their success. And your armed forces are a joke. With the notable exception of Great Britain, you no longer have the military strength to defend yourselves. Alas, you no longer have the will to defend yourselves.

What worries me even more than all this is your willful blindness. You refuse to see that it is you, not we Americans, who have abandoned Western Civilization. It's worrisome because, to tell you the truth, we need each other. Western Civilization today is under siege, from radical Islam on the outside and from our own selfish hedonism within.

It's going to take all of our effort, our talent, our creativity and, above all, our will to pull through. So take a good, hard look at yourselves and see what your own future will be if you don't change course. And please, stop sneering at America long enough to understand it. After all, Western Civilization was your gift to us, and you ought to be proud of what we Americans have made of it.

I think society has gone mad.

With divorce rates so high when I think that people spend £15,000 plus on a wedding and insist it must be a church wedding when the chances are they'll get divorced is just as mad as marrying a dolphin,. Well not quite but do people see where I am getting at.

I'm not religious but I can see how vicars, priests etc wonder if young people today are getting married in church as it is "the" thing to do, yet they don't really believe in God or it is a a convenience to say yes.

Young woman I know, Catholic, got married in church for wedding number 1. Got divorced after 2-3 years of marriage. Few years later meets new guy and gets engaged. Now they get married in a church but not in a Catholic church as she can't get married there again, and new husband is non-catholic anyway. So they go to another church which will marry a divorcee.

Why? It HAS to be a church wedding so they find a church which will marry them. I don't get it. There is a reason why the Catholic church and Anglican for that matter won't let a divorcee get married in the church....
