Default WAW!

I couldn't find a previous topic for it, so I thought I'd ask.

For those of you involved in wolves at war, what can you tell me about it?
I've been to the site and read quite a bit so I know what its about, but I'd like to know what your experience has been with it.

I flew missions with the guys at bombs-away.net in B172 (years ago) and had a blast. I think WAW is the same type deal.

Any feedback is appreciated.

WaW is not an MP team. We play a full Uboat campaign, with patrols beginning every three months in-game, every 3 week in realtime.

KTBs are posted. Orders received by BdU and FdU, regulations to abide by, etc.

Mods allowed are ones that add realism to the game, like RUb.

A great group of people, mature atmosphere and very engrossing and time consuming.

If that sounds good to you, follow the link to enlist.

Good hunting, herr Kaleun!

As another B17II vet with 160+ with v8th OPS missions flown, I would say that WaW is almost exactly the same thing. BTW B17II has no MP ability, its one big shortcoming. I know of at least 2 v8th OPS vets who are in WaW right now and love it.

I was also lookin at the WaW website...and it seemed very interesting indeed....

Q: Is this run by downloading single player missions, or starting a new single player campaign? I couldn't quite grasp that answer from the website

A: ?

A: Single player campaign

It is like any single player campaign except WaW is much more fun. You take orders from BdU and/or FdU so you can't do whatever you want. They also give you your promotions and medals and there is also some kind of level of role playing. You need to find it out by yourself and see what it is.

It really adds alot to the game. I joined recently and have completed 2 patrols so far. The structure, the orders and regulations and seeing what you can contribute to the stats of the overall war increases immersion greatly.

Default WAW!

Thanks for the info!

HW3, from what I've seen, WAW looks very similar to the V8th, and that was the most compelling aspect! Flying missions for the 8th really jacked up the immersion and feeling of being part of a bigger effort.

My biggest concern with WAW is the time needed. I really hate to committ and be on the roster when I know how my schedule can be at times. There are weeks when I can't even scrape the barnacles off the hull!

It opened the game up for me I am on My 3rd patrol and am VERY AFraiD right now My guys are in a lot of trouble.
I find keeping a log very fun. I hated no externals at first, but it really adds to the feeling of confinement.
I hope we go back to 1939 'cause I gotta BAd feeling.

I am in a major convoy but TOO many warships guarding it.

It is a good structure - because it adds exactly what SHIII is really missing - a sense of not being out there alone, a sense of actually fighting a war with real objectives, real 'wolves' out there (somewhere...) hunting with you and sharing their experience, and a real flottilla commander to look over your shoulder (and your war diary).

The only bad effects of WaW I've found are
1) terrific way to get sucked in to the point where you're really afraid of getting sunk, and to the point where you find yourself writing a 1000-page logbook (which I did, literally!)
2) it diminishes the "lone" SHIII experience, because it's just not the same as WaW

...oh wait, those aren't bad at all, if you're into it :rotfl:

****

Read the website. There's plenty of detail there. Check out the 2.Flottille forum which you can look at without registring - it's a great example of WaW at day-to-day work.

A lot of improvements have been seen in WaW over the last while. A new database made compiling final reports a breeze, and gave us a wealth of new stats; and BdU and the Flottilla Commanders have now got a real handle on the way that the campaign runs, and have been admittably getting more and more creative with giving excellent, immersive assignments to all the boats involved.

I can't wait to get back into the action myself; trying to settle the matter over the unfortunate end of my previous career now.
