Steam integration can sometimes be complicated because of the way they handle their digital distributions and Dangerous Waters is the first title of its kind to come to the system, so it's expected that the process of integrating DW into the Steam system would be a bit tricky.
I think they are working on this as top priority. ![]()

We are sending them a Release Candidate build very soon, and as LW said we are going through a bit of "growing pains" with them in the way that the retail version of DW works (i.e. registry keys and filepaths) and how that application architecture will translate to work within Steam.
I think we are VERY close (we have a build that is working), and we hope to have some news soon. ![]() - Jamie |

It isn't just a pay, download, and make my CD? I haven't used Steam (or kept up with what it is) -- but considering that I'd most likely be deleting, modding, etc., is Steam up to the challenge?

Since Steam has links to mods for HL games, would mods, such as the excelent LWAMI series, be linked to via steam as well?

Basically if I'm not wrong games distributed by Steam nead that Steam be running in the background for you to be able to play. So if you buy Dangerous Waters through Steam, every time you want to play you should have Steam running as well. It works this way for most games, though. Now since Dangerous Waters doesn't use cd-keys or other types of copy-protection I'm not sure if Steam will be necessary to play DW. Maybe in this case it will be used only as a distribution channel. |

Any of you guys actually used steam much? I found it so frustrating I uninstalled HL from my computer. You can't just connect to a server to play a game (like now) you have to connect to Steam first then it will allow you to connect to the server. So if Steam is down, which happens often, then you can't play online, not even a LAN game. That's how it is with CS, will DW be the same?
Honestly, if DW ends up being hog-tied llike CS was with its Steam implimentation then I would give careful concideration to running an old version of the game or, having failed that, just uninstall it all together. |

My thing though is I don't understand how much Steam will contribute to sales. I'd rather SCS spent the time fixing the issues with the 1.03Beta patch and other fixes and then once those have been sorted out work on integrating Steam.
Would be nice to know some more info how it is going on both the issues. |

In terms of mods, It's not impossible for LWAMI or any other team to get them integrated, however there's no reason they will not work under the existing arrangement - you can still get to folders within steam, and alter command line options. A quick note on the whole 'need to have steam running to play game thing. Guys, this is old news. Steam lets you place a shortcut on your desktop that runs the title as normal, and if your internet connection isn't up it simply prompts you to start the game in offline mode; that's all there is to it. I can also report very few problems with Steam. There is also an Offline Mode for single player without the internet...
