Default Explosions in London?

Is this just an isolated incident or something more sinister?

First report of series of explosions and a huge fireball near the Buncefield oil depot close to Hemel Hempstead and St. Albans just outside London

December 11, 2005, 9:01 AM (GMT+02:00)

The blasts near MI intercity highway were felt across SE England up to West London. The cause of this major explosion in a predominantly industrial area is unknown. The

Ramada and Holiday Inn hotels have been evacuated. Fierce flames shroud the area

The blazing depot supplies fuel to the central UK airports of Heathrow and Luton. Witnesses report heavy rumbles before the explosion, much as though an aircraft crashed into the oil installations.

Let's not speculate yet, shall we?

I hope everything turns out fine.

Thanks for keeping us posted! It sometimes takes awhile to hear of news outside the U.S.

Damn, that's what I miss by watching Saddam's trial.

After the fiasco of the Underground shooting, I guess it will take us about 3 weeks and a half, maybe, to get to the truth, sit tight CCIP.

I would think the target here is industrial, from the news read so far.

Anyone see the latest George Clooney movie "Syriana" and remember the ending? :hmm:

in the 1970's the oil storage depot on cavey island (6 mins away from me) was attacked its one of the largest in the south east of britain if that goes up they said every window for 30 miles will shatter.

i live about 4 miles away they routinely have VLCC tankers tied up unloading and loading fuel and its very easy to bomb the place theres 3 security gaurds on during the night so i should be worried,

not least of all the people living with in spitting distance of it

Latest news has it down as an 'accident', a pretty big one at that.

I heard two loud bangs this morning at 6, but when I failed to hear any police sirens and orders to evacuate because Sizewell was going up, I went back to bed.
Apparently it was heard as far north as Northampton and as far east as the Netherlands!

Kapitan, discussing the security aspects of any installation is not wise my friend.

Suprise, Suprise.

Fox News is now talking about how Al Queda and friends have been threatening this.

They seem obsessed. Every accident is a secret terrorist attack now on that website.

So far it's still being treated as an 'accident'.
43 injured, 2 seriously.
The cloud is spreading eastward, people in it's path are being warned to keep doors and windows shut and to stay inside as much as possible.
M1 has shut near the area...
The cloud seems to have reached London, some roads affected apparently.
Police reckon this is the biggest incident of its type in peacetime Europe.

For example, from AFP (not Fox) December 7th: Oil prices climb after Al-Qaeda call for attacks on oil facilities. Pure coincidence. Can't be. Piffle.

Speaking of Fox, this should be more to your liking. Is everybody happy?!
