Default radioman and airstrikes

anyone here ever actually get an airstrike after radioing in a contact? i found a cgf file that looks like is modifies the probabilities of recieving an airstrike. correct me if im wrong.

i heard that radioing in a contact increases the chances of an airstrike. ive radioed in about 10-20 contacts and have never seen an airstrike.

The only air strike I've seen as a result of my radio report is the air strike on ME! :rotfl:

I am on my 21st patrol and i've reported every single contact i've met.

No airstrike, no help, nothing happened.

Once i've attackem by 3 british planes when leaving my port 'lorient' and they just keeping waving hands to me from the port instead of sending a few Me-109's

I quit making contact reports. And I've also quit sending patrol reports because I'm tired of the same old "Keep up the good work" response. How about telling me there's a HUGE party waiting for me when (if) I get back. I'm still in the early years and sinking stuff like there's no tomorrow. I just deck gunned a tug boat to Davey Jone's Locker. I'm running out of ammo!

Only 1 time. This happened quite recently, where a 'flock' of German aircraft attacked an enemy ship (Sergbuto's Transport). It occured maybe 2/300km from home base. I was setup to fire a torpedo when they attacked (submerged, and quite close to the enemy ship!).

It happened while based at La Spezia (29th Flotilla), early-1942. I'm not using any AC mods, etc., so it was a 'stock' SH3 plane-attack. I didn't radio-in any report. They just showed up and attacked.

Btw they were really bombing hard, but didn't sink the ship right away (lousy aim maybe?). They may have but a torpedo got it first. I should have waited to see what the German AC would have done.

Otoh, I have lots of strange problems, just 'getting' (or staying) transferred to the 29th flotilla. Figures it happened there... I doubt I'll see this again. Was neat though!

I ran into something weird the other night - I was stalking a small freighter off the coast of Norway a few days after our invasion in April 1940, and was about to submerge to 'scope depth to get into firing position when my watch crew spotted an airplane. For some reason, I can't see the airplanes any more, so I just went ahead and dived like I usually do anyway.

A few minutes later, I popped up my scope for my first and only check just before firing, and I noticed that the whole stern half of the freighter was on fire and the mast that usually carries the flag was blown away. I thought I was seeing the aftermath of a Stuka attack, so I went ahead and finished off the freighter with my last torp.

When I went back to plot my course home though, I noticed the sunken ship indicator on my nav map was BLUE

Apparently, the plane was British and had attacked a German freighter - I'd never seen or heard of that happening before

I have never been in a position to radio in a convoy sighting or anything like that when I was anywhere near within range of any friendly air cover, but I do send in after action reports and have radioed in a few convoy sightings if I get a chance to do so before I submerge to attack, but so far it's always been way out in the middle of nowhere so I've never seen any response to the reports.

I've had it happen quite a few times...
In fact, there's been times when I would radio in a contact and while engaging the ship, the Luftwaffe would show up, finish him off and take the credit!

I one time had 2 german planes finish off a tanker that I had put a fish into but had not sank.

I could only wish a German plane showed up to finish a cargo ship I tried to sink this morning.

I put a torp in it and it just slowed down. It's still early in the war for me so I surfaced and sent the deck gun crew up for action. After about four shots they ran out of ammo. Damn! I am still on my way home from a successful patrol and I've only got one torp in the rear spaces, and it's not loaded because no one is in the room! So I put a full compliment of sailors and 'chiefs' in there to load it and I spend my time making sure the cargo ship doesn't ram me, which it tried to do while I was thinking of my next move and looking at my 'crew' page. Now I've got to get my hind end facing this joker. I caught up, turned hard to port, shut down the speed, and launched my last torpedo. I hit it squarely - and it STILL wouldn't sink! I've got external 'extra' fish but I don't know how to get them loaded, so I've got nothing.

Then I rermembered reading somewhere else here that you can use the Flak gun if you take control yourself. So I do it. I'm slinging shells like a crazy man and I've got the entire deck on fire. The cargo stacks are exploding all over, and stuff is flying around like popcorn. YEAH! But, still no sinking. I'm going nuts. Now I'm just shooting at the same spot on the waterline in the hope it will pop a leak and list.

And then it happens. I'm attacked from the air and I just say "The hell with it". I'm not taking a chance on engaging this bird with my highly successful patrol almost under my belt. I "duck and run", and now I'm still headed for home.

Two Condors saved my arse once in the North channel. Three destroyers were working me over pretty good. I forgot that I had sent a contact report just before crash diving. Anyway, the DCing stopped and I cheated by taking a camera look to see what was going on. They sunk one destroyer and seemed to have the other two on the run bracketing them with bombs. I made a hasty trip outta there!
