Default Saving minor .tga modded files, file size shrinks! hmm.

I'm just playing around a bit with Irfanview, and trying to test-mod some some .tga files for SH3.

An example is a stock SH3 .tga file, originally 512kb in size.

The problem I have, if I merely open, then save the file, the 'new' file is reduced in size, from 512kb to about 312kb, and I haven't even done anything to the file.

Is there some sort of setting in Irfanview, that keeps the file-format/size as the original .tga file?

Thanks,

Salute! Joe,

On your Irfanview toolbar go to "image" and then "Re-size/Re-sample."

You will need to tinker with the settings there.

I think you will see it right away... I hope that helps.

The tga's can be saved in 16bit, 24bit, or 32bit, and with or without compression, which influences the final file size.

I suggest 24bit, uncompressed, and to use Photoshop. Irfanview does not give you the option.

Thanks guys, for the tips and info.

I can't get Irfanview to save SH3's .tga files at their original size.

Simple mods with some SH3 .tga's work fine, but it sure messes up other files, like dials, and gauges, etc. At least I now know why it doesn't save correctly (compressed).

Even with a 30-day free evaluation of Photoshop, it's not worth the download (330mb). I'd use it so little, and have recently found out I'm a ~really~ lousy painter!
