Ive never been much to take Russian subs for a spin. But I seem to experience a rather bad crash every time I fire a Shkval. More specifically, right when the Shval is about to explode/hit the target.
I tried reinstalling and re-patching, still happens. Not just a crash-to-desktop, but the ever so rare Windows XP Blue Screen of Death and auto-reboot of my system. some quick specs: AMD Athlon XP 2400 1024 DDRAM Geforce 4 Ti4200 128 DDR (using driver 77.72) This crash seems to happen ONLY when viewing Fire Control station. any ideas? |

ok, just an update. this crash also happens when Shkval are being fired at you or anyone for that matter.
the rule seems to be. if you are in any station, EXCEPT nav station when a Shkval explodes in the game world, it crashes. can anyone duplicate this? (also, system event log tracks no occurence of this) |

well. pretty much got it down to a sound issue. trouble is im using a newest driver for my C-Media 8738 sound card there is.
I have a disabled AC97 onboard sound, but im leery about trying that. anyone know how well that works with DW? its pretty popular on crappy mobos....like mine. ![]() |

I tried to duplicate this. I tried with both the Shkval in the Akula II and the Akula I. I tried to go to different stations in the submarines. I fired multiple Shkvals. And I was unable to duplicate this situation. I had zero crashes.
I'm running DW with only the v1.01 patch, Subroc fix, and Sound-Speed fix. Have you modded anything yourself? I added a mod at one point and forgot I did it. ![]() Sea Demon |

im running DW 1.01 with sound/speed fix. no mods. its a fresh install from 2 days ago and I still get the crashes. on the battlefront boards there is some mention that this problem is related to sound. funny that it only seems to happen with shkvals and that they work fine if you stay in the Nav Station.
I do know its sound related because now that ive seen the Blue Screen many times, ive been able to read what it says for the 2 seconds that its visible before it reboots and it says that my cmaudio.sys file has caused the error. so, since im using the absolute newest driver, my only option is to try my onboard sound and see how that goes. im wondering if sonalsysts has any ideas on this issue or plans for the next patch. |

well. it doesnt crash when using the onboard AC97 sound, but its very 'tinny' and a bit scratchy at times.
never had another sound problem with the c-media with any other game or media. I even moved the c-media to a different PCI slot and it got a different IRQ. I was hoping that would do the trick, but it crashed again. Its clearly that DW doesnt like the cmaudio.sys driver. Heres the important part of the error message STOP: 0x0000008e cmaudio.sys address f6b7b89e at base f6b60000 |

Black_Dingo,
Replied to your post on the SCS-DW Tech Support forum... Not sure what else to have you try other than rolling back your sound driver (which is a good suggestion). ![]() |
