Default Destroyers easy target?

I dont know about you but from my experience with the game so far, it is very easy to shink enemy destroyers by launching acoustic tropedoes from the rear. You dont even have to target properly. They almost always reach target and one hit is enough.

What do you think? Did this happened during the actual war too?

No, the early acoustic torps were not very accurate, were easily decoyed, and suffered from premature explosions which led to wild overclaims of the weapons' accuracy and efficiency.

This game probably makes them as good as they were supposed to be, not what they actually were....

I've been using TIs in the bow tubes, and TIIIs in the stern tubes and have sunk a lot of DDs. You just have to anticipate if they're changing course or not.

I use T XIs from late 44 onwards and they are great on merchants but I have seen some that I fire at a destroyer go right pass it then turn round head for the noise of its screws and miss or sometimes when they hit fail to detonate (didnt think they had duds in 44 45) and sometimes Ive seen them snap a destroyer in half.

The reliable depth and very reliable magnetic detonator make attacking escorts an easy task.

One of the hardest and most important tasks was attaining the targets speed. In SHIII the escorts always travel at 10 knots and are not effected by the sea state, so the speed is always correct.

I use to have an 'escort first' mentality when attacking convoys; but I quickly threw that out as I advanced in the game with more experience. Escorts, destroyers and corvettes in particular, are just not worth it unless you're thinning the crowd when they're about to attack you.

In this case, I find stern acoustic torpedoes to be great; although I do think they are bit too accurate. One of the things I find happening a lot to me, though, are the darn torpedoes homing in on multiple targets and being unabale to make up it's mind on which to hit. That's when I have a torpedo circling around until it explodes... without hitting anything.
