That always did seem abit excessive.
Although seeing as its used mostly for when you spot a plane who will drop a bomb really messing you up at periscope depth, you should go alot deeper. If your using crashdive when you spot a destroyer, maybe you should just change to "AHEAD FLANK - PERISCOPE DEPTH!" |

Do what I do. Hit the 'A' key when you get to your desired depth and level off.

Why not crash dive and then order 25m? You have plenty of time to give this order. The important part is that the dive and ahead flank commands are given. Then you have a whole ~30 seconds to order a new depth.
Here's an important note. If you order a crash dive and then periscope depth, your dive angle will not be as steep. This means it will take longer to get the whole boat underwater. Ordering a depth of at least 20m ensures the planes are set for max dive (they won't be for periscope depth).

I usually just hit "C", and then wait until the boat begins diving (the dial is moving), and manually order whatever depth I want. I find it typically takes about 20 meters for the dive to level off, so if you level off the dive planes, you're going to coast down another 20 meters before the boat levels off.
I do kind of wish we could set our own dive planes, but such is life... |

Go to SHIII/data/Submarine/(U-boat type)/cfg
Crashdepth=(change to whatever you like) Backup original first. I never use the snorkel depth (too shallow) so I have it set to 30 meters. Changed verbal response from chief from "snorkel depth" to "dive planes set for shallow dive". Using "Shoot" voice recognition software, when I say go shallow we go to 30m and I get "dive planes set for shallow dive".

On a similar subject, is there a way to assign decks-awash in the sub's cfg?

You mean "preflooding"? Yes. Download this:
http://home.arcor.de/gizzmoe/files/Bad_weather_guns.rar Use the "SurfaceDepth" values, it works great. In the game click on 6-6.5m depth to "activate" it. |
