corrected the kaidai's characteristics : wouldn't go to periscope depth easily, now it does, corrected speed / range too.

Kelto's Jyunsen_B at Yokosuka Naval Base
![]() With it's first mission to US coast: ![]() Now we have to figure out how to get enough fuel for it to get there. The mission was originally written for the Sen Toku (range: 37000 miles). I guess it would be easier to redo the missions.:rotfl:. Anyway, we are rolling. Need to convert several files. You will notice the Japanese bases are blue and Allied are red. As soon as the Japanese capture them, there will be a refit at Wake and another base at Rabaul. Then it's one step at a time. Peabody

The B2 type had similar performances, the B3 (www.combinedfleet.com) : (quote) "Type B3 ![]() (Imperial War Museum photo, scanned from Polmar and Carpenter's "Submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy") Externally similar to the B1 and B2 types, these three boats had greatly reduced engine power, with enhanced range. The hangar opened forward to access the catapult mounted near the bow. Four additional units were canceled in 1943. In 1945, I-56 and I-58 were modified to each carry four Kaiten, giving up their 14cm guns in the process. They also received snorkels at that time. Of these boats, I-58 achieved the most notable success by sinking unescorted heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis with conventional torpedoes on 30 July 1945, with heavy loss of life. I-58 was also the only member of this class to survive the war. I-54 was lost to destroyer escort USS Richard M. Rowell east of Surigao Strait. I-56 was lost to five destroyers and aircraft from escort carrier USS Bataan east of Okinawa on 18 April 1945. An improved variant, called the B4 type, was planned but never started. These would have been larger by about 200 tons, had a surface speed of 22.5 knots, and carried eight torpedo tubes forward (with 23 torpedoes). This class was planned to number 8 boats, but they were all canceled in 1943." (end quote) ![]() so maybe we could also model that one??? for late war missions only though.... keltos |

A refuel at Wake would knot off 3000KM but we don't have wake at the beginning, not until I think the 23rd of Dec. I think that would work. Or we could scrap the US missions until we get more info. Wake to San Diego is about 5500 miles straight line which would mean going between Midway and Pearl. In reality it really isn't a big deal, they didn't do much of anything there anyway. Oh, BTW I did try the new version of Jyunsen B and it need to go to about 18 on the periscope depth. I think it's 16.5 or something like that. I was getting spotted by planes and ships. I put a little less but still got spotted then put 18 in the .cfg file and it seems ok. Have to test in rough weather though. Oh, another question, we are going to have these three boats from the start right? Peabody

Thought of another thing, check around to see if anyone knows where the info for the map in the captains office is. I can find the map but I don't know if we could use the other map and change the coordinates or something. Half the missions are not even on the map. They will show on the map in the sub but not the map in the office.
Or we could convert your subs to Gatos.:rotfl:. Peabody

Using the measurement in mission editor it is about 12270 KM and that is one way. And a km is a little over 1/2 mile (.6) so I don't think it will make it. But then too a nautical mile is less than that and but I don't know whether the game uses nautical miles. That would still make the trip about 6500 + nautical miles one way. That doesn't leave much for hunting. After the Pearl Harbor attack they sent the subron2 to refit in KWAJALEIN, Marshall Islands. That's closer to the US isn't it ? A refuel at Wake would knot off 3000KM but we don't have wake at the beginning, not until I think the 23rd of Dec. I think that would work. could do, or a mid ocean sub tender refuel ??? Or we could scrap the US missions until we get more info. Wake to San Diego is about 5500 miles straight line which would mean going between Midway and Pearl. In reality it really isn't a big deal, they didn't do much of anything there anyway. Oh, BTW I did try the new version of Jyunsen B and it need to go to about 18 on the periscope depth. I was getting spotted by planes and ships. it's all that junk you have on the tower, and I didn't mod the "ears" yet ! :rotfl: I put a little less but still got spotted then put 18 in the .cfg file and it seems ok. Have to test in rough weather though. do that please ![]() Oh, another question, we are going to have these three boats from the start right? PeabodyThey aren't ???? |

![]() ![]() found on : http://www.kwajaleinscubaclub.com/ very interresting site with wreck maps etc... found on wiki :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IJN_6th_Fleet Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands was the main base for Japanese submarine operations in the Pacific until it fell to the Americans in February 1944. IJN 6th fleet headquarters was relocated to Saipan in the Mariana Islands, which the fell to the Americans in July 1944 with the death of IJN 6th fleet commander in chief Admiral Takeo Takagi and most of his staff. The remnants of the IJN 6th fleet were based at Ulithi Atoll in the Caroline Islands until the end of the war. It was used for submarines prior to the Pearl Harbor attack, I guess as a staging/refueling post. there was the Rio de Janeiro Maru (submarine tender, flagship) at Kwajalein. 11 November 1941: The I-74 and the I-75 depart Saeki. 20 November 1941: Arrives at Kwajalein. 23 November 1941: Departs Kwajalein for the Hawaiian Islands. there is more intel on : http://www.combinedfleet.com/I-174.htm Last edited by keltos01; 08-06-08 at 05:03 AM. |
