Heyo,
![]() Does anyone know of a better skybox for SH4 compatible with TM? Once you get away from the cities, the night sky is filled with myriad of stars, yet in SH4, all we get are the main constellations. In the middle of the pacific, where skies are dark, we shouldn't have city night sky visibility. Anyone know or have a mod for this? Thanks Neon ![]()

Yeah, I miss that about going to sea.
On clear, cool nights with no moon, Jupiter, or Venus, and after your eyes have had time to adjust, the sky becomes absolutely saturated from horizon to horizon with stars. All the constellations and the milky way accretion scream right out, but there are so many other countless stars that show up that the entire sky fills white with them. The detail and depth of what you see is kinda frighting, actually. It's literally awe-inspiring. Very difficult to put into words - you have to experience it to understand. The first experience was a life-changing event for me. Such a sight permanently altered my perception of many things, and it sparked my love and "very" humble study of astronomy. Anyway, sorry. Hard to shut up about it, lol... ![]() Having said that, it is doubtful that SH4 can reproduce the effect, and trying to do that with a cylindrical skybox will likely turn out not so well. We have a lot of talent producing mods, so you'll never know what may turn up in the future, but I think doing that in this sim and having it "look right" would be very difficult indeed. |
