Can't Get Subsim/Amazon Copy SH5 to Update to V1.2

Successfully updated game to V1.2 & will now load TWoS 2.2. Thanks skin-nl and the rest for your help! See last post for what happened.



Running Win10 Pro on Inspiron 3670 with Geforce GT 300/2GB as video card. Downloaded SH5 thru the Subsim/Amazon link. Below was a review of the download and the guy seemed to know what he was talking about:
"5 stars...IF you upgrade the install immediately through Ubisoft (Here's how: DO NOT run the original Uplay software that comes with the game download.

- Uninstall the original Uplay that comes with the game, grab the latest version of Uplay from Ubisoft's website, run the new Uplay software in the Administrator role and it will update the game to V1.2).

- Next: right-click the game executable file Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe and set compatibility mode to "Windows 7", or "Windows 10" in my case (can try others like Vista or Win XP as well, if necessary) and check the box "Administrator role", and check box for "Overide high DPI scaling behavior"...very important! If you now launch Silent Hunter 5 it will run.
1. Completed the upgrade ensuring that UPLAY has upgraded the Sh5 exe correctly (as above)
In the compatibility
2. Set the exe to being in Admin Mode
3. Set the Disable Full screen optimizations
4. Go into Change High DPI Settings:
5. Program DPI ticked
6. Override high DPI scaling factor for Applications"

So I loaded SH5 as admin into D:\SH5 folder after turning off my AV. After load but before I tried to open SH5 I uninstalled Uplay and loaded latest Uplay into same dir as SH5. I then adjusted the SH5.exe as suggested above. I then fired up the Uplay shortcut on desk top, logged in online, went off line and changed settings to login offline from now on. Started SH5 from Uplay and the SH5 version is still 1.04 and not 1.2. Am I doing something wrong?? Thanks! Gene

Hum, unless U-Play belongs to Ubisoft, Ubisoft no longer has anything to do with this game, they have stopped support, they have sold or do rent the licenses AFAIK.

So any right setup of the game is the business of the digital download's owner. If you have bought the game second-hand, then you did the bad thing, I'm afraid. To my knowledge without U-Play you cannot play the game currently, wether you have the Steam version, the DVD version or a digital download. However, by installing the megamod TWOS after updating the game to 1.2 which U-Play should have per default (very strange what you say), then U-Play will not be a factor anymore.

The Official Patch 1.2.0 should still be available somewhere on the net however.
Get the game updated to 1.2.0 via U-Play or find the patch on the net, launch the game to see at the upper right that you read 1.2.0, and then install TWoS mod.


Now, if someone sells the game without the need of U-Play, so much the better, do exactly what they say, but...I have my doubts that this will work...The stockgame has an in-built U-Play DRM in all versions I know about, you will likely start the game but this doesn't mean you will play it for very long...

Uplay is part of the Subsim/Amazon download game. I'll try and manually update it to v1.2 as soon as I find the patch, but I doubt it will work.

I miss typed the version that loads in my initial post - the version that loads after going through all the Uplay business is V1.0.5.

Not sure how your game provider works, but for U-Play you usually need an account and password, plus you must provide the game key you have received. After this you can download / update the game.

Do you have a support directory in your sh5 install?

Support\gameupdater\gu.exe

Thats how i updated my sh5 to version 1.2

Alas, I have a Support directory but no gameupdater folder. Searched the install dir for gu.exe and no joy.

If you have the 'Collector's Edition', then click on the word 'hier' in the page to download that patch instead of the download link.


Try to patch the game with it. If it works immediately install TWoS. You will NOT be able to play the stock game 1.2 without U-Play, but you can play after installing TWoS.

That didn't work - says "Patch can not be installed with current game version.". Now, what I downloaded is SH5 Gold Edition, so I may try download the Collector's Edition version and see if it works.

Well, that path did show up after I logged in again online with Uplay and saw a big blue "UPDATE" button below my installed game SH5. Clicked on it and now I had gu.exe. Game is now at V1.2! Thanks for help!
