Support Unable to install SH3

I brought up SH3 to have a little variety after playing SH4 for years. There were some strange anomalies, like the F9 and F10 keys not going to their respective gun platforms, and going to flank speed brought the boat to a dead stop! I also found that using the UZO with a right click to give it free swinging resulted in a torpedo firing when I right clicked again. Very strange.

So thinking I had a corrupt install after all this time, I used the Control Panel to uninstall SH3 and deleted the SH3 folder from My Documents. See my signature block for system specs. Once all that was done and the only SH3 entries I had were for JSGME and SH3 Commander, I attempted a new fresh install from the CD.

This is where my trouble began, after loading the CD into the drive. The initial screen came up giving the options, and I selected "Install". I got a box showing it was configuring the Windows Installer, and then Nothing! It freezes there and never completes the configuration step.

Has anyone encountered this? I've searched the forums and Microsoft Support pages to no avail. I've tried starting the installation from the CD automatically, by running Autoexec, and by running Setup.exe direct from the run command. Nothing. The installer hangs at the same place every time.

I can't tell if it is an SH3 CD problem, or strictly Windows. I did pop in another CD of about the same timeframe (Janes F-15), and it passed the installer configuration just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe the CD is just dirty. Clean it with a soft cloth and try again.
If this doesn't help, I would try to create a copy of the CD.

Hi tb
Do not forget after uninstalling from the Control Panel to run a registry cleaner and then reboot your system before re-installing.
After re-installing make a pristine copy and save it to a safe place.
You will not need to use a dvd to re-install again.
If you think you have a game corruption just copy and paste your pristine copy to your game.
Ccleaner Free Registry Cleaner > Includes Download Link
SH3 does not like Windows 10 so run in compatibility Windows 7 mode.
Check my signature out for any further info.

Default Problem, Part 2

After cleaning the CD, installing the six Optional Microsoft Windows updates, and rebooting the system, the Windows Installer magically worked. But now when I try to start the game in order to create the Main.CFG file that SH3 Commander says it needs, it stops with this message from "Protection System":

Error
This application can be launched with a release version of Miscrosoft Windows 95 OSR2.1/98/ME/ NT 4.0/2000/XP/ Server 2003 only.

Notice the spelling of "Miscrosoft" vs Microsoft.

Any ideas on this one? Thanks.

Looks after the starforce copy protection. So you need the No DVD Crack.

Download ftp://hartmuthaas.no-ip.org/Public/S...ower%20Pack.7z

Unpack and copy the files from SHIII_1.4b DiscScratchProtector Utility into your installation folder.

That was the perfect solution, Captain! I greatly appreciate your assistance. Now I'm running SH3 GWX-3 (Gold) and enjoying the hell out of it. Thanks again.
