Icon8 Install Problem & more

First up I am asking this question on behalf of a friend so I better give you some background info.

He was running SH3 stock with SH3C and a few mods and tried the XXI U-Boat 1939 mod and that was the start of his problems. What happen was after un-installing this mod it screwed up his watch towers Type 7 U-Boat with a Type 2 tower result CTD. Any how he un-installed the game and all the mods and deleted the SH3 folder and ran Ccleaner.

OK fresh install out side the Programs x86 folder on his Win8.1 and two problems came up, the first it would not install any where than this path C:\User\Dave\Program\Silent Hunter 3\SH3 yes my friend did create this path so why will it not go any where else? He created a new path C:\Games\SH3 Game\Program\Silent Hunter 3\SH3 but it will not have it! OK so he went along with the old install path and right at the end of install he got 1628 Error can not install message.

And now it gets even more strange SH3 is installed and he created a short cut SH3 icon from the folder on his desktop because after installing the SH3 icon vanished followed by the error message. Any way after playing a couple of patrols the Type 2 watch tower problem is back!

I hope you understand the above problem and can help out so I can pass on any suggestions.

Thanks.

Yes everything was done as it should be.

UPDATE:

Apart from the strange install issue he has tried again and his Turm when in base in the upgrades screen shows the Type 2 on a Type 7 U-Boat, this problem as said above is linked to XXI U-Boat Mod to play in 1939.

BTW: After a few patrols playing with that mod the same happen to the Type XXI result CTD.

From my point of view I feel this is the No.1 problem he has.

IIRC the installer doesn't accept spaces in the installation path.

Thanks, my friend is running it now and I'm having ago myself.

I gave up over year ago trying to get GWX to run without CTD, Stock ran ok but after playing GWX no competition. Anyway that is a separate issue, getting back to the issue here how long does this SH3 Cleaner go for?

It depends on OS and amount of installed software.
On some older XP machines it lasts up to 10 - 15 min.

OK hes back in and has informed me hes done the SH3 clean but the message 1628: Failed to complete installation has come up again and yet as before he launched the game and did a quick spin around the harbor.

Some good news he has not been forced to follow the original download path as pointed out. He has now got it on this.. C:/Games/Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII

I suggested he does no more and just try out the game and see if this Turm problem crops up again. So that will be it until Friday or Saturday with a update.

BTW: Told him to launch the game from the icon in the folder and not to create a desktop short cut.

Steed, look in your Start menu and look for an icon in Programs that resembles the SH3 icon. It's actually SH3 Detection and will show up once SH3 has been uninstalled. Delete it right from the Start menu, as was a result of the uninstall that created it there. It does not show up anywhere but in the Programs.

It happened to me and I couldn't reinstall SH3. Once it was deleted the reinstall worked.

BTW, I'm running StartButton8_Setup_freeware for 8.1.

I just tried it myself after using the SH3 cleaner and Ccleaner I got the same 1628: Failed to complete installation message and yet like my mate I went to the folder where I installed it and there it was. Like him the SH3 start icon vanished from the desktop so I clicked the icon in the folder and the game is running, no good for me as my fan just went into over time and the PC became real hot after one quick patrol. So I went to uninstall SH3 and could not from the disk! Ran a search no SH3 was found on my PC...ERRR. So I just removed the everything myself and ran SH3 cleaner and Ccleaner again. I'm not that bothered as I stopped playing well over a year ago.

Any how moving on to my mate with his problem spoke to him on the phone and so far the Type 2 Turm problem on the Type 7 has not returned, will update again over the weekend.
