Default how can people misinterpret simple information ?

Some years ago we could hear and see following in a Danish news program

"95% of bodily harm crime is committed by persons of non-Danish origin."

Some hours later, I could read comments on FB. and many of these comments made me wonder.

Are many of my friends or their friends bad in math ? Or they interprets the information based on their political beliefs

Here are what many wrote.

"Here my friends are the evidence which many people on the left refuses to see, 95 % of our foreigners are criminal"

No it does not say that 95 % of our foreigners are criminal, it says, 95 % of this type of crime is committed by foreigners and that's a big different.

(This thread is NOT about how criminal our foreigners are. It's a thread about how people interpreting the information they get)
