OBSERVATION PERISCOPE TROUBLE

Hi Everyone. I'm on my fourth patrol. I was just given command of the USS Balao. I had the USS Barb Gato-class sub before. The problem I'm having is that I've never been able to get the observation periscope to work in either boat. It sounds like it's extending, but when it's up, all I see is black. Total black.
Can someone please tell me if this is a glitch with my game or if I'm doing something wrong? Thanks very much. Jeff

Post your game version and mod list from JSGME.

Game version can be found on the lower right hand corner of the menu screen.

Hi. Thanks for replying. I have version 1.3, although I am probably going to download version 1.5 because most of the mods I've seen here seem to require 1.5.

It sounds like you're looking through one scope and raising the other.

Go ahead and upgrade and see if it fixes the problem. There were a lot of bugs with earlier versions. Follow Steve's suggestion also.

That's cool. I just wanted to bring up the possibility. If it were true you wouldn't be the first. Beyond that I'm afraid I have no idea what might be causing it. Best of luck.

In any case, you would benefit greatly from getting the 'Gold Edition' version (v1.5) on disc. The mods enhance the game a great deal.

Well, "Pride goeth before the fall." Today is fine-feathered-friend day. I'm a turkey and will be eating crow. I was, indeed, trying to look through the observation 'scope while at the attack 'scope station. Thanks for the heads-up Steve.

Can you help me with something else? Isn't there a way I can go directly to the threads I've posted and the replies people have posted to them? I can't find that. Thanks a lot. Jeff

Aha, so a partial raising is possible? Interesting, I didn't know that.

Just like in real life you can raise the scope partially. The insert/delete is for the attack scope and the page up/page down is for the observation scope(I think) I never use it.

first things first, I am utterly shocked that no one noticed you said you are using v1.3 which is a very very old and buggy version of the game and no mods will work right with it so that's a big problem.

the last free update is v1.4 so if you do nothing else then do that first and it may fix your problem.

now on to the most logical next step:

you "need" to get v1.5 ad-on that you must buy. it will upgrade the game version (no matter what version you have) to v1.5 and add a german side to the campaign.

there are still a small handful of mods that will work with v1.4 of the game but not many. just about any mod you download is made for v1.5 and will not work right on older game versions not to mention, v1.5 fixes a lot of bugs that still exist with the game.

after v1.5 you should add my GFO mod as it adds many fixes that weren't done with v1.5 so its mainly more fixes for the game with some added content and a "few" visual eye candy changes and minor tweaks but for the most part its still the true stock game as far as difficulty and playability.
