What does that green thing over on the left on the navmap with a flip top do?

The "green thing with a flip top" is a compass:

I'm not sure exactly what it does in stock since I use TMO, but it might display a protractor. Open it, and then use the course plotting tool, the ruler, the compass, or the protractor, and the cursor will turn into a protractor so that you can read course headings or angles easily.

It can be useful when gathering data for a manual attack or plotting intercepts.
