Looks to be more storm related.....

Bad news either way, and another blight on Malay based operations.

It doesn't look good.

Definitely not been a good year for Asian airlines. Hopefully this one will be found and there will be survivors.

Reports of bad weather in the area, the A320 has had its share of problems, but most of them have been either pilot error (due to unfamiliarity with the computer systems on board) or landing issues due to poor adhesion. This'll be the first time one has gone down mid-flight.

Let's have a bit less of the silly comments please, there's 162 people on this flight, of multiple nationalities.

you didn't refrain yourself from silly comments in the thread in which hundreds if not thousands were involved.
besides, I'll quote (for the last time) Sailor Steve here: don't tell others what they can or cannot do.

I wasn't telling, I was asking. There is a difference. If you want to drag a petty squabble from one thread to another, that's your choice.

Come on everybody, two or more wrongs don't make a right, lets maintain some level of quality understanding here.

Bloody hell not again. Has any year ever been this bad for airline operations before?

Oh, it's been much worse:

http://m.theepochtimes.com/n3/116491...es-in-a-while/

1972 is usually considered the deadliest year.

While 2014 is unusually bad, the 1970s and 1980s were substantially more dangerous for air travel, especially when you take into account that there are far more airplanes in the air today than back then.

Damn. Surprised that 72 was the worst. I thought for sure 77 would be the worst since Tenerife happened that year.

There's not really a difference, and I'll never understand the "scarebus" myth, because statistics either don't bear this out (or even favour Airbus slightly).

Some stats by type:
