Al Jazeera Journalists Jailed in Egypt

Unconscionable verdict in the trial of 3 AJ journalists in Egypt overnight. Given the rubbish case brought by the prosecution which included holiday photo's and even a video of Gotye's hit song, its hard to give the judge in this case any credibility at all and puts into question whatever scraps of democracy that exist in Egypt,

No but I don't expect the ridiculous case brought against them to have been taken seriously by anyone. The whole proceedings were shambolic

Why should a few journalists be treated any differently?

In the end Greste is the victim of a dreadful case of guilt by association. His crime has been to be employed by the Qatar-based television network that is despised not only by the Egyptian regime but by powerful, wealthy Gulf governments such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates because they perceive it to be sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood, a religious-political movement that threatens their hold on power.

He fell victim to the station's political agendas and Egyptian government.

Horribly, even that association is flawed: Greste works for Al Jazeera English, which is a far cry from its Arabic language sister station, being more measured and balanced in its coverage of regional events. It's left Greste the victim of blind stupidity, magnified by a savage regional rivalry.

Al Jazeera in Arabic is far from being balanced news station , something to consider when signing the contract with them.
Some of their stories are no better than the accusations of Egyptian government.
There is this ideological agenda the station promotes...and ME is touchy place so working for them( the Al Jazeera in general) as reporter not necessary means the treatment of the holly man or diplomat.
The Egyptians made their point and hopefully will let him free soon.

I think it's well over 500 by now, and I expect it to be well over 500 more before the year is out. That's if there isn't another uprising at some point.
