Default Questions about tweaking RFB 2.0

I'm really liking the mod, but there are two things I'd like to alter for myself.

#1 Mouse Speed or sensitivity, I have to swipe the mouse across the mouse pad several times to look around. This was not the case with vanilla 1.5. I'm sure this was to increase accuracy when aiming at distant targets, but it makes my life difficult

#2 Smoke from ships. The puffs when I see them on the horizon are fine, but when I'm up close they start pumping out thick columns of BLACK which while impressive to look at, I think it's taxing my system a bit....

I'm guessing #2 is going to be a non-starter and that I'd have to change something for every ship in the game (like the sim file or similar), but I am hoping #1 can be accomplished. I have Silent 3ditor.

I've noticed the mouse being sluggish, but I always figured that was a stock issue. If it could be improved, that would be great. I do find it difficult to make rapid, fine changes to the dials and controls.
