Default Coming back to Silent Hunter, but which one?

Long story short: I've played tons of SH III, even more with the GWX mod, a lot less SH4 (maybe 50 hours) and not much else.

Now I have the urge to get back to it but I'm far out of the loop and I'm not sure which game/mod combination I should play. I absolutely love GWX so I will go back to playing that unless I find something else but I'm open to suggestions. So if anyone could be so kind to do a brief description of the various combinations available to us today I would be very thankful. I own both SH3 and SH4 obviously but can buy SH5 if needed.

I know its a bit of a big and fuzzy question but I value opinions as well as facts. :-)

Silent hunter 3 for some reason there is always a calling as you have found out. unfortunatly I have played both SH4 and SH5 but there never seems to be a suitable replacement for SH3 GWX or SH3 NYGM.

I myself recently started to get back into the submarine simulation and went right for SH3. For me it started with...

1. Silent Service on the Commodore 64
1.1Red Storm Rising
2. Silent Hunter
3. Silent Hunter II (Great game)
4. Silent Hunter III
5. Silent Hunter IV ...good game, looks great and all but the U-boats and Battle of the Atlantic draws me in more.

Anyway...As for Silent Hunter III, wish there was some more online going on, seems I missed it all.

Give MultiSH3, a stand alone utility program, a try...it allows you to have multiple installs of SH3. I have one install of SH3 with GWX and a second with SH3 and NYGM. You can play both as I do or you can decide which one you like best and go with it alone. Also, either way you go I would highly recommend using SH3Commander to enhance your experience.

I second Kelly621's advice. GWX and NYGM, using MultiSH3 so you can bounce from one to the other. I have a LSH install also. Looks interesting, but I have to make a SH3speech module for it and haven't decided what layout to make it for. Right now, it's NYGM with Hitman's optics for me. Bare bones, no fancy graticles, just a couple of hand-held wiz-wheels. Very U-boat feel!

As someone on this forum posted (I apologize, but I don't remember who.), NYGM may not have the greatest graphics, but you get a really accurate death!

I've tried 'em all, and keep coming back to GWX augmented with OLC, ACM and TMT.

Nothing against NYGM and LSH, both are very good at what they do, but the above combo just strikes the right balance of sim vs. fun.

It's kinda like a Ferrari, great fun to drive, but if you make a mistake it will kill you.
