Default Do bays always have calm seas?

I only pull in exterior reserve torpedoes if the sea is calm enough to man the deck gun.

Of course, in SH3 it seems it is always storming.

So often I will pilot my sub into a bay, like where a resupply ship is, and invariably the sea is always calm there, even if the skies are stormy.

Is this always true in the game?

If I can't find calm seas at sea I just motor into a friendly/neutral bay, pull in the torpedoes, and then continue the mission.

Really? I don't recall ever seeing that. In fact one of my biggest complaints in all SH games is the rough water inside harbors. Ships collide with docks and catch on fire, or end up halfway out of the dock rocking back and forth. Water inside an open bay might still be somewhat rough, but "safe harbor" is a term with meaning behind it. I need to find these bays.

IIRC, close to land the windspeed always drops to 6m/s I have never seen 15m/s in a harbor.

I too have never had high winds in a harbor. I thought it was intentional to simulate the effects of the breakwaters, etc. without actual current physics in the game.

Furthermore, while long periods of storminess are possible (and should be), I have had several patrols which resulted in the weather improving after the bad stints.

If you haven't, try the H.sie patch. It restricts external torpedo loading to good weather, and adds a delay to your dive, simulating putting the torpedo back in its place, or at least just tossing it overboard.

Hey Luno, I like that patch idea forcing a delay on dive. I assume it only happens when you are pulling in external torpedoes?

I have confirmed now several times I have been in the mouth to Gibraltar with stormy weather and all internal torps depleted, and I pull into the bay where Thalia is stationed and the sea is calm enough again for deck gun use. The sky may still be stormy but the sea is calm enough for the deck gun.

I only pull in the external fish if the seas are calm enough for the deck gun. I also only store steamers in the external stores, as they did in real life.
