Any Hunters experienced speed reduction during time compression due to adverse weather conditions ? Heading for Japanese coast with 512 time compression ,at nomal time the sea is coming over the conning tower, looking at map with 512 comp, the knots go down to 0 although batteries are still being charged . With 100% realism being played and an eye on the fuel, I,ve been running at 10 knots , and pushing up the compression ,maybe its built into the game when the weather is bad . It does,nt seem to happen when its a lovely day . Just trying to get to my area with as much fuel as possible ,its a bloody long way back if you,ve chasing a few .

I've not had this. Zero knots relative would be pretty extreme, even in the biggest storms in the game.
Are you sure it's not 8 knots?

I have had this happen to me on one occasion, heading back toward Midway while closing out a patrol. The boat repeatedly came to a stop, then would start moving again a short bit later, again, running under TC. I happened to check my crew roster and discovered that I'd left the poor bastards at General Quarters some days ago after clearing the area of a harbor raid I'd done to bag a few extra tons.

Thats the first thing I looked at ( crew at action stations) this 0 knots as never happened before when in time compression ,so I have t assume its the bad weather . I must admit I,ve left the crew at action stations in the past and they,ve all been asleep like they,d been out fer a drink !!

Must be the Kraken's got hold of ye!
Sorry, i had to... Do the symptoms change at different levels of TC? 128, or 2048 for example. Do you see the needle wiggle, despite the digital reading? Any damage to your boat? No? then... Must be the Kraken's got hold of ye! |

Well, if its not due to crew fatigue, then perhaps it is the weather, but I have my doubts, having never seen what you are describing happen for any reason other than crew fatigue. It seems odd that the limited weather effects in the game could bring a boat to zero headway, and such a condition would be very dangerous on a real boat in a real storm. Odd goings on for sure, sorry I can't be of more help.

You say "although the batteries are still being charged". Are they charged (100%), or being charged?
My thoughts: One thing I noticed (since SH2) is when in really bad weather, whenever the depth indicator reads a depth value below "surfaced", the boat switches to electric mode. In extremely bad weather this happens constantly (sometimes I just lay in my Captain's chair gazing at the boat sailing on ![]() Quote:

![]() I've never had anything like this happen. That said, I seldom use 512x TC. I don't recall ever losing more than about 2 knots of speed due to weather. |

Thx to all who,ve replied ,I have mods but they have not yet been activated ,the batteries charge up to 100% ,no crew at General quarters ,this 0 knots happens at 128,256,512,TC, I can get headway with 64 TC ,also the problem does NOT occur when submerged . The weather topside is Clear sky ,high wind and a heavy sea running , it must be the weather ! Also while I,m on the subject, the crew on lookout are not dressed for Foul weather ,my Lads are gettin soaked t th skin ! Is there a mod for S,westers etc ? Its a Great game ! H

Have you tried to duplicate the phenomena with "unlimited fuel" and "unlimited batteries"?
Just for clarification, when I mentioned "below surfaced" I was referring to the constant depth change when plowing the waves in heavy sea. Gazing at the boat progression I can clearly hear the boat switch back and forth between diesel and electric. Is this a recent problem? Have you tried to reinstall the game? I assume you are using the "course plotting" tool, ending at your final destination. If you are doing everything right, then I can only think of two possibilities: a) a "bug" in your game; b) it's the Kraken (I've seen strange shadows on the water once or twice in SH4, knowing there is no vessel of any kind there ![]() |

You could be right there Bruce about depth change, the Chief eng is always telling me that we,ve gone down 20 ft then up again when normal time is used, and this sea I,m in is sending me under in the troughs ,the trouble is I,ve just past Wake Island so have still a way t go .I,ll just have to slog it out at 64 TC .I want to save as much fuel as pos so I can stay longer in my area of ops . As for the Kraken ,I,ll welcome any company ,not seen a stick or a spar for days ,,, good hunting wolf H

It's happened to me, and repeatedly. In bad weather only, and when doing under 6 knots or so.

The Weather has now resumed to a more calmer period and the TC has gone back to normal . In my area of operations and about 70% fuel left ,after topping up at Midway .Must have been the adverse weather conditions , Like to thank all who responded . H

When its that rough on the surface simply dive and use the batteries ... unless your following the weather system you'll get out of it in a day or two and if your running at your slowest speed underwater your still moving and your batteries will last as long as they possibly can.
I normally get at least 36 hours out of my batteries. |

![]() I kind of think he just wanted to know what the heck was goin' on. I mean, if I was running my diesels and not going anywhere, I want to know why, too. |
