noobe need help

hi guys .I just found my old copy of SH4 . Now I need help with it . And I mean from a scratch . How to load game ,patch it, which patches , then modes ( notching crazy ) . Basically starting manual for dummies . Thanks

Welcome aboard soulstealer. With a name like that, I have no choice than to assign you to serve drinks to us ubirats in the bilge.

To install, simply put the disk in and follow the directions. I'm not sure about Windows 8. When you do install, put it in its own directory (ex: C:\Silent Hunter 4...).
Patching, you need to go to the Ubisoft site and get the necessary patches. If you already have the u-boat add on, the game is already patched as high as it will get. If you don't have the add on, spend the $10 and get it. It is well worth it and the best mods are written for it.
"starting manual for dummies" There is a stickie at the beginning of the posts that have a lot of information and guides. Over at Ubisoft, there is a stickie that also has some excellent information and guides.
Mods: The big ones are Trigger Maru Overhauled (TMO), Real Fleet Boats RFB, and Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign (RSRDC). There are many small mods that do various changes. Read the information that is included before deciding. There is also Operation Monsun (OM). It's not actually a mod, but an add on to be able to do the German side in the Atlantic.

first of all let me start with the most important thing I'm all up for drinking I'm from Chicago if you from around if not you can bring your sub over and dock at Navy Pier. second of all I've got a question from the book that we spoke about earlier do I need all patches or I can skip to the last 1.4 and what's up with uninstalling and reinstalling SH 4 before applying patch 1.4

One patch overrode the previous one so you can go straight to 1.4.
You don't need to uninstall, then reinstall for the patch. If you wish to use mods, then sh4 can't be in the default directory. I don't really understand, but the mods don't work if the game is in the default directory. That's why you install into its own directory. I know someone else can explain that better than me.

And I'm not going to dock my sub in Chicago and leave it alone. Someone will steal it and hide it in a giant warehouse.
