Just started a new career using GWX. So I'm off to sea in August of 1939.
Since everyone is neutral, what exactly can I do? I suppose I could go lie and wait somewhere in the north sea for the war to start. In a previous career, I tried waiting near Danzig. That was a mistake! Now I am starting over, just floating around the English Channel. Wish they would give me some pirates to chase or something lol! Also, I learned not to dock at Riga. Spawning in they put me inside a building! Good thing I saved. ![]() |

Do nothing.
Make a dummy trip just outside the harbor and back. Your next patrol date will be around or after the war starts. |

I run a practice patrol: Out from the dock, quick trip around the harbor and back to the dock (which is unnecessary - all you really need to do is start the patrol then exit immediately). I then open SH3 Commander and qualify all my crew. Next step is to set 'Days In Base' to 18. My first 'real' patrol then starts on August 19, which is when historically 14 boats were sent out to the North Atlantic to wait for "whatever". I then have a little over a week cruising around my assigned grid until the "whatever" takes place.
An alternative is to set 'Days In Base' to 25, which starts your patrol on August 26, giving you just enough time to get to your grid before the war starts. Or you can just select September 1 as your start date.
