Halo permabanning sexist players

Halo 4 players who make sexist or discriminatory comments while playing the game on Xbox Live will receive a lifetime ban as punishment, according to an interview with the game's creators on Gamespot. While discrimination has always been frowned upon and punishable by temporary or permanent bans from the service, the creators behind Halo 4 seem determined to squelch this kind of harassment with a zero-tolerance policy.

The insults on Xbox live is one of the reasons why I prefer PC. Its just generally a more civil and educated community.

The last time I played a multiplayer game, it was a multiplayer SH3 mission into Galveston bay with some folks from Subsim. That was at least 4 or 5 years ago. Before that, I can't remember.

I have no interest in anything multiplayer.

I agree with the policy. Such harassment has nothing to do with the game and shouldn't be tolerated.

Last time i played SH3 online was about 5 yrs ago too and i got banned from some german player host. They were probably in teamspeak saying somebody please ban this noob! What did i do wrong? Well it was my first SH3 multiplayer game joined up, all excited, we set off to attack a convoy. As we got close i decided to order the deckgun crew to man the guns and fire at will. Bad move. Some bug or rather but the crew fire upon the players subs where i sunk one! I was oblivious to what was happening till it was too late.

Yep, basically. And it really is a pretty serious problem when you look at the kind of stuff that some players say and do, when they think they're so great and anonymous. Harassment can't be tolerated, period.

When I'm not playing our usual hardcore sims here, I tend to play shooters etc. with a group of my real-life friends, among whom are girls who, as gaming skills go, are really good. The amount of immature or downright creepy behaviour that they sometimes have to put up with on public servers can be really disturbing. A good friend of mine has had several online stalkers, for example, and had to quit playing a couple of games because of the amount of abuse she was getting. There is a problem with sexism in online games, and it should be treated as harshly as it is anywhere else. Contrary to popular (among some people) belief, most women don't play games to entertain guys or to get attention that they weren't asking for.

And yeah, PC is far better than Xbox and especially Halo (where you are guaranteed to constantly be playing against bratty, entitled 11-13 year olds), but there are still some serious problems there as well. It's just that the average age and maturity level of players is higher.

If more kids would play outside, we might not have the childhood obesity problem that we have.
