nice video of the hulks, i think the biggest problem with the soviet leaders in the 50's to 70';s was foresight, as they didnt plan ahead on what to do with the vessels once they reached retirement.
at the hieght they had around 530 submarines in service in a wide range of classes problem is each class has a diffrent maintinance programme i think this is why america and the UK and others had a single class of SSN and SSBN mostly in service as maintinance on one boat will be roughly the same as the last and next.

the problem now is of course what to do with them had they scrapped them in the 90's rather than now it would be cheaper as now they have to refloat alot of them, perhapse its a lesson to china dont build a mssive fleet unless you can get rid of it later on.
