nvidia geforce gt 520mx dosn't work
Hi, I have just bought a laptop, Core I7, windows 7, 64 bits, nvidia geforce gt 520mx, etc etc
I've installed SH5 and what's my surprise when, trying to run it, I get an error that there is a problem graphics card (X). All other parameters are ok. I've googled for the problem, but I found no answer. So anyone knows if SH5 is not compatible with this type of computers ? I am puzzled at the fact that I was running it on a "slow" Intel Core Duo, 32 bits, and it worked...this new laptop which is supposed to be good for games, etc, it doesn't... ![]() |

I think SH5 comes under 'demanding games', unfortunately. ![]()

I have a GeForce 330M in my Toshiba Quosmio laptop and I can play Crysis, Civ V, Silent Hunter 3/4/5 without problem (at settings darn near max). Your video card is much better than mine and should handle it no problem.

I have a Geforce 360M on an Asus G60JX that has moments of minor framerate drop, especially inside the sub. I would be curious to know what your NVIDIA settings were to see if my settings are conflicting with the game's rendering.

This is a higher-end laptop so the motherboard isn't a cheap one. It also has a Core I7 which helps it move data around (set to 2.8GHz). I threw a SSD in it (OCZ Vertex 3 MAXIOPS) to also ensure data moves quickly. Very happy with it even though it's 'antiquated' by today's standards. It's my home away from home (has 19" screen) |

Herr-Berbunch, I still don't get it...how is it possible an older, Core DUO crap, cheaper laptop (over 1 year old) can handle SH5 acceptably but the latest I7, etc etc can't ?
Also, I am not saying that it doesn't run smoothly, it simply won't start the game. SH5 can't be that "demanding"...must be something else. |

WELCOME ABOARD, fsweb2011!
![]() Was your older, Core DUO crap, cheaper laptop by chance running WinXP? It has been noted that Win7 won't look in 'Program Files', and you need to install the game directly to the main folder. I have a seven-year-old single-core PC, and it runs it, barely. But it does load.

I think the graphics issues has a lot to do with the rendering of the sub interior. I have just installed SteelViking's interior mod and I have observed a world of difference. With the stock graphics, I had to uncheck everything except 3d ship effects and Texture quality high with Particle density and terrain density all the way down. With the interior mod, I can check all options except windowed mode and turn particle density and terrain density up halfway and still have a consistently smooth framerate. Not quite full blast, but much better.
