Default WIP: British voice over

Hi all,

I have been tinkering with the SH4 vocals and converting them to British. Seems ok and I have about 250 commands completed. I created a manual that will help anyone else who would like to help out with this project.

http://www.mediafire.com/?cryybuyfzd8lul7

I used Audacity to work with and it is an altogether exceptional recording tool and very easy to work with.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/down...indows#recdown

So if anyone is interested, please enlist

Excellent idea!

One of my complaints about people wanting to do British (or Dutch, or Japanese) subs has been that if the voices aren't authentic then nothing else counts, and it just doesn't feel right. I'm glad someone took it upon himself to try to make this happen.

I'll gladly do some sound files in Pig Latin (isn't that the native tongue of 'Pig Boats?')

Hi Steve,

yeah your right. I have done a few voices and they work fine. It's only really a matter of recording say 20 a day to complete the project, it's not hard work, just need help with the different officers. The last thing anyone needs is to here my voice all the time, would drive me insane .

If anyone wants to help, PM me and I'll send some voice demo's to compare volumes with.

Default Matching Speech (or at least accent) to Nationality

Am so looking forward to this mod. I really miss the speech matching the boat. So much eye & ear candy for the mechanical, but when the British or German crew say in straight American, "Surface the Boat", it just loses a bit of the shine.
Thanks for taking it on.

well doubt my southern accent(US) would be appropriate for a British sub mod, I could however do my best impression

A real good plum in the mouth (John Mills) Eaton accent, lol, even I can't do that.

By all means have a go Bubbs, more the merrier, try a few and see what they sound like, add a bit of colour.

I did think about putting a bit of rhyming slang into the files, colour it up a bit,

I'd love to help, but my cockney accent is terrible, and thats the best accent I've got....
Because I dont think anyone wants a submarine full of one liners from Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, or Monty Python.

If you wanted an english speaking russian accented crew, though, I'm your man.

A few Tips on recording.

When you find the files containing the speech recordings, copy the whole folder "Speech" and
contents into Audacity as backups, best to work from these files from here on in. You will only
need to work on one folder inside the Speech Directory, I have been doing "1"
SH4/Data/Sound/Speech

note: The recordings are Labled ChE_K ....ChE_P ....ChE_S and so on.

note: There are some cheering sound files, I ignored these.

Create a folder on your desktop for each set to save your work in.
This way you can do a cross check count on how your recordings are progressing
and that you have the right number. I then deleted that batch of original recordings.

As you can see there are nine speech folders 1 to 9, right now I'm not entirely sure
on how or where the recordings should be placed. If you come up with an ideas please post them here.

I think a "bloody hell" would be appropriate when a depth charge explodes or damage is taken lol
