Default New to SH4 - What next?

Hello everybody, I am new to SH4 and I am looking for a thread similar to
"SH3 Newbie Guide, Links and other helpful stuff" in the SH3 forum. That thread was such a big help and got me going in no time when I started to play SH3 some years ago, all the very useful hints, downloads and whatever extras..., the most important Super Mods briefly introduced etc.
I didn't play for quite a while now (lack of time) but want to get into SH4 now a little deeper. Maybe somebody can give me some guidelines or a hint for a similar thread.
What are the most popular mod combinations, which are compatible (I noticed there is a GWX4), what are the do's and don't do's etc. I have the version 1.5 installed.
Thanks in advance!

I can't help too much, since I still only play the German side, Operation Monsun. There are several major supermods available, and all of them have their good points.

No, there isn't. That project was abandoned and the team broken up more than two years ago.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I find a thread with some basic information about the "Super Mods"?

I can give you some very basic information right now. All you have to do is look for the titles to get more detailed info.

RFB (Real Fleet Boat) is a history-based mod which corrects most of the games problems and attempts to make everything work as it did in real life.

TMO (Trigger Maru Overhaul) is a very highly detailed conversion which also fixes most of the issues. The difference is that some of the enemy units were made better than they were in real life, the point being that when they work exactly as they did in real life they also become very predictable, making the actual play much easier than it really was. With TMO the player's knowledge of enemy actions is limited, so the player is forced to think about what he's doing.

GFO (Game Fixes Only) is exactly what the name implies. It isn't a rewrite of campaigns or AI, it just lets you play the stock game with all the bugs fixed (at least the ones that can be).

FOTRS (Fall Of The Rising Sun) is based on TMO and adds a bunch of mods favored by the AOTD mod group.

RSRDC (Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign) is a major reworking of the game's campaign layers, scripting in historical convoy and major task force movements to limit them to actual times and areas. Good for all of them, vital for GFO and RFB.

OM (Operation Monsun) is a complete reworking of the German campaign, bringing it up to the standards of the better SH3 supermods. Lacks the graphics add-ons (active harbors and extra ships) of the SH3 versions, but it provides the AI fixes and a great experience for the 'other' side of the game.

IXD2 is a great "minimod" for the German side. It doesn't have the complete campaign of OM, but it does wonders for the boat itself and takes the 1943 Monsun campaign in the Pacific to the max.

My apologies to any I forgot, and please feel free to add them to the list.
