Default "Ship sighted, yesterday, about noon!"

Well, basically, very often when decreasing TC to 1 for one reason or another (travelling at 256) I get the message "Ship spotted!" and a given bearing. Of course, nothing is on that bearing, for apparently, it is an old message, that haven't reached me yet. I can see how the messenger can get lost, it is a pretty massive sub, but it's still annoying to know that several prizes have slipped away due to this.
Any solution to this problem?

Does this happen near shore line or harbor areas or out in the open sea? 256 should be OK to be at and not run into "slow stops of TC" like you're describing but if your PC is slower it still might drop to 1x slowly.

My main problem is that I'm dropping to 1x but NOT hearing the "ship sighted" or "contact heard" messages and I wish I knew why. It's obviously some mod conflict since for a while it happened.

For your issue though, 256 should be a "safe" TC to be at and not miss ships.

It happens mainly at open sea I think. It might also be a mod conflict in my case.
I also experience your problem with 1TC and no good reasons from the crew. If I can be bother, I ususally dive and check hydros, but seldom with any exciting results.

If you enable map-contacts in your difficulty-settings, then you'll see a brief flash of the ship-icon on the map, before it quickly disappears again.
Usually you'll only notice this, if you keep a constant eye on your map during TC...but anyway, keep your pencil ready, to mark that contact.
Now decide if you want to sail back, to pick it up again....it can be half-a-day away by now.

Well, I'm playing real navigation, so the map is pretty barren. But thanks for the tip anyway.

This happens to me all the time, all over the map.

It also happens that the TC drops to 1 only at the moment when the ship is 400 meters away from me, filling my boat with shells. Maybe this happens because of travel mode?
