Default Coupla' Problems/ Newbie to 3/

Ahoy Kaleuns,
I'm having a good time getting to know SH3 as well as SH4. My experience with "4" has helped quite a bit, but there are some differences.
I'm playing GWX3 with some great mods and most everything has been good.
HOWEVER... I have two problems.
One; I am playing the start of the war (Aug,39) and I don't have any idea whose ships I should be sinking. I sunk several large Merchants with what I thought was British, French or Canadian flags. All the "ship sunk" icons on the map were green. When I got back to base it seems I had much less renown than when I started.
Where can I get the list of national ships I should be sinking?
OK,Two; I got a message of a merchant with a Lng/Lat bearing, The nav Map has sectors but no Lng/Lat markings. Where is a comparable navigation map with Longitude/ Latitude markings?
Three; One of the sectors I was supposed to go to was BF10. I noticed that all of the sectors start at 11 ie; AV11, BF11 ect. What happened??
Four; In GWX the crew seems to take an inordinate amount of time to recoup their strength. Is there any way to speed up the rest time?
So far I think that's it...
Any help Kaleuns??
Thanx
D40

Welcome aboard.
I will try to answer your questions
1 . a. Be more careful when identifying flags. When on UZO or attack scope mode in the upper right corner of your screen there is a pull down flags sheet "Flaggen". There you can see to which nation each flag goes and if she is an enemy.
OR
b. Use the Contact color mode http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...?do=file&id=33
to restore the colors
OR
c. Modify your bacic.cfg file as follows:
[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=100
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=500
CompletedPatrol=150
NEUTRAL=1 Change this from - 1 to 1 and no renown will be deducted for sinking neutrals
ALLIED=1
AXIS=-10
WrongShipSunk=-5000
FirstRankRenown=100
SecondRankRenown=350
EndCampaign=-5000

2 . This happens when a contact is far north out of the grid system. If you zoom out enough you will see it and intercept it , if possible

3. There is no BF10 , a common bug. Just ignore it. In any case in GWX you don't get renown for reaching and patroling the assingned grid unless you change the basic.cfg file (See No 1c the green lines)

4. It is not the job of the Kaleun to babysit his crew. Use the No Fatigue option of the SH3 Commander.

I hope I helped.
Gut Jagd Herr Kaleun!

1. It's August 1939. The war doesn't start until September 1, and the British don't join in until September 3, so all ships are neutral. Go out on a short shakedown cruise, then wait until September for the war to start. Historically FdU sent out 14 boats on August 19 to wait for the start of hostilities. Or else set your start date for September 1.

2. There are no latitude and logitude bearings in SH3. Any messages with those coordinates are historical transmissions inserted into the game for immersion purposes, to make you feel like you're not alone in the war. They have no bearing on the game at all.

Thanx for all the response.
Thanx Von Harris.
This will help considerably. By the way, In SH4, you can go to any sub base to "Refit" without ending the patrol. Is there any way to go in to base for "refit" without ending the Patrol?
Thanks again

Aye....the return to base renown never worked from the day SH3 was released

That said, if the OP still insists in locating the position, every degree of longitude and latitude in the game is 120 km in length.

No , returning to base or any U-tanker or Suppply ship will end the patrol.

I didn't know that. When I got these messages , there were indeed contacts far north out of the grid system so I made the connection.
