Default Georgia Farmers have 11,000 jobs

Georgia passed some strong laws regarding illegals so such suggest they're leaving the state in mass duing harvesting season which could result in millions of dollars of picked items to go bad.

It seems these farmers have a few choices, increase wages beyond the average $9 per hour would likely bring in legal workers, although food cost would go up...but why not, this is the correct thing to do.

Why farmers may incure more cost, the state will save much more in hospital cost, jails, social services, etc. The burden should be on the private employers, not the state anyway which makes legals pay the extra amount in taxes anyway, so I could live with cost for more picked items and lower taxes, although we know if states save money they usually spend it elsewhere.

Where are the teens today, are they just so spoiled and lazy they won't work in the sun. When I was a teen in the late 70's/early 80's we all did this kind of work in the summer for money, pluck tobacco, get up hay, pick apples, etc....

Georgia did the right thing, hope NC would do it, but we have a much worse problem here.

The biggest would be unemployment, last I check we were ranked 10th in the nations highest unemployment.

Illegals here are another big issue and have taken over most rural towns, but place a big burden on social services and ruined most the professional trade services once operated by legal americans.

Big spending, another 3% increase last year.

$9.00?

you must be joking I make 8.40 at a place I've been 4 years. It's probabally because it's only for harvest and they have to pay well to make it worth the hands' time.

Not that I'm from the states or anything (Canada) but the town I live in has a HUGE amount of Migrant workers. Mexicans, Jamaicans, Dominicans, etc. At one point we thought there were more migrant workers then locals in the town...

Anyways, two years before I left for university (so when I turned 16 and was "legal" to work here) I went looking for a job. I tried the obvious, McDonals, Wendies, all the fast food joints. No go, all of the elderly ladies had those jobs (hanging on to them til they die I suppose..), next up I tried Green Houses, that was full of migrant workers. They could afford to pay the migrant workers 6.50 an hour compared to the 9 or 10 $ minimum wage for me. Ok, so I check the fields, same story. NO WHERE. in an entire county could I find work. It finally got to the point I had to cut grass and clean cars/trailers/boats for $$.

That continued til this past summer where I got a job in a green house due to a family connection. Later after talking to my boss he said he was glad I got the job but that I was costing him an extra 2$ because he could have hired a migrant worker instead of me.

Where are the teens you ask? For the most part being lazy couch potatoes... But some, those actually looking for a job are fighting just to get a damn interview because of illegal immigrants and migrant workers...

P.S: I'm not trying to be racist or anything like that, but gtfo and go back to your country already...

That's why they need to go, you can't compete when them because they have an advantage, their illegal, they can bypass wage and tax laws. Still, when I was a teen, we didn't worry about min wage laws, we got paid a set amount a day. I worked from sun up to down for $20 an hour, less than min wage...and my mean brother would charge me $5 for gas even though he drove to the same spot.

Different times I suppose... It just burns me inside sometimes hearing the older generations speak about how lazy my generation is because we don't have jobs...

Some of us are actually looking haha, we just don't have the same opportunities (willing or not) to work as you did.
