Default Plane Amazing!

PLANES take off, passengers wander through terminals and workers tend to the jets, but this is no ordinary airport. The world's largest model airport/railway, the Knuffingen Airport, has gone on display in Germany.
The incredible model is based on Hamburg Airport and features 40 planes and 90 vehicles that autonomously move around the airport.
It took seven years to build and cost a staggering $4.8 million.
The model includes a carsystem that manoeuvres the vehicles by computer. Meanwhile tiny wires move the planes, making them appear to fly.
Passengers appear to walk around the terminals and the vehicles even feature flashing lights and indicators. A series of lights around the miniature airport give it a bluish glow.
Luggage, carts, staircases and carparks are also featured in the 150 square-metre display, which also showcases a variety of planes from Airbus A380s to Cessnas.
There are approximately 40,000 lights, 15,000 figurines, 500 cars, 10,000 trees, 50 trains, 1000 wagons, 100 signals, 200 switches and 300 buildings.
It is on display at Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany.
The real Hamburg airport opened in 1911 and now covers almost six square kilometres.

Wow, that is simply amazing!
I'm not a Airplane or Airport fan but this is really really cool.

That was cool

I remember being taken to the Ideal Homes Exhibition in Edinburgh when I was a wee boy circa 1969 where they had a similar (though not as complex) airport on display. The aircraft ran along slots and took off a ramp into a black box where they were reset for the next run. As a 10 year old It was a wonder of the world right up there with with Thunderbirds.

Cheers

I totally would have loved to have been in on that build - that whole setup is pretty freakin' sweet.

Thank you for sharing this! Totally made my day.

aaaah, Miniatur Wunderland, one of the many many places I'd love to visit in Germany (if Germany could ever be prepared for my atrocious German [just ask Schroeder]). The massive model railway there is absolutely epic and this airport just adds to that epicness.

What a place.

There are one or two people here who can speak English, so maybe you don't need to rape our language just to see this.
