Default Stupid AI Germman submarine.

I was shadowing a convoy when all of a sudden I spotted a German submarine surfaced on the side of the convoy. He was in actually quite a good position to attack. All he did was stay there, stopped, while he got blasted by the British escorts. I got a grey sunken ship icon appear on my map where he was and all the escorts came back uninjured to their positions.

Why did the escorts attacked him and he didnt responded. It almost looked like the game told the submarine to stop and wait for the convoy to pass to avoid any collisions.

I was disapointed, I thought we were going to attack this convoy together.

That would have been cool.

Question is... why didnt you take the chance to attack while the escorts were distracted? hmmmm?

There are no wolfpacks in SH3, AI subs cannot submerge, and I'm not even sure if they fire torpedos, just their deck gun. So if you do see the escorts attackign another sub, use that chance to cause havoc.

AI can use the deck gun on some U-Boats. The manual says otherwise, but I'm almost positive I've seen them use it.

They can use FlaK guns.

Unfortunately, they don't have torpedoes, nor can they dive unless they are in swiss-cheese mode.

As Gargamel said, they are a distraction Sometimes they will foil a good approach and throw off your shots.

For sure I will do next time. I was just too bewildered on watching the massacre. Such a waste of subamrine.

I didn't notice it fire it's deck gun either. Anyway if it did, it missed, because all the escorts were 100% no fire on them.

(I run Warship Mod 3.0 with my SH3 install, I use SH4 with OM for my U-boot fix).

I came across a convoy at night while out to sea in the "Admiral Hipper". I noticed that there were star shells being fired, and a bunch of spotlights were on. It piqued my curiosity so I switched to the external camera and panned over to the convoy. There was an AI U-boat in the middle of the convoy playing target drone. It was 1942 so there were armed merchants. The "battle" went on for quite some time before the U-boat went down. The escorts weren't paying any attention at all to the sub, and in fact when I fired my first volley into the convoy they came after me. Poor little Corvettes were Cruiser Food.

It's possible the first station destroyed was the deck gun because that would normally be firing at an escort.

The quickest way visually is by looking at the gun barrel and if it is bent downwards...tis broke
