[REQ] Question for Start a campaign / Ranks of my Crewmember / Equipment
Hello all !
I have recently made following observations: 1.) When I start a NEW Campaign (Tutorial mission accomplished) the game asks me, after having put in the name, if I want to play the tutorial (Poland) mission again. I say No, and after loading I'm immediately in the bunker. When I now go and "speak" to the equipment officer in order to e.g. alter my torpedo loadout and/or select a conning tower emblem, these selection options are "greyed" out and not accessable. I only have the lowest option "Es gibt nichts mehr zu sagen (There's nothing more to say)"! Has somebody else experienced this, or could somebody test and verify this? When I then start the mission and I'm onboard my boat, the boat is nevertheless equipped with a complete torpedo loadout. Hmm, maybe there's no possibility to change anything on the boat prior to starting your 1st Mission without having olayed the tutorial once more, or what? ![]() ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++ Then I noticed the following (both with Vanilla and also MO): 2.) When I play the tutorial mission and end it in the bunker, and immediately after that (without starting a new campaign) continue playing (i.e. equip boat /ask for mission / continue play), some of my crew members have the rank "Kapitän zur See (Captain)", even the cook... ![]() This happens when you point the cursor at the game character, and also on the related ID card! Characters concerned are Dieter Epp, the cook, navigator, and someone more (can't remember right now). However, when I play the tutorial mission and finish it, and after that go and select a NEW campaign in the Main Menu (like in point 1.), all crew member have the correct ranks, but it's not possible to equip my boat acc. to my wishes before the 1st mission (equipment officers's selection options not accessable). Has somebody else noticed this behaviour, too, or could you possibly counter test this and report your findings here?! Thanks in advance! Best regards, Magic ![]() |

It's something in the original game that's wrong. As things are, don't be too happy a new campaign sets their ranks correctly...... Sometime during the first patrol or at the start of the second, they'll end up as Kapitans again. I've started a few campaigns testing out various combinations of mods and have seen this everytime. On one occassion they were all demoted from Kapitan zur See to Matroosen Gefrieter at the start of the third mission! |

In answer to question no. 1, yes at the start of a campaign upgrade options are greyed out for me modded or not. I work round this by starting a patrol and ending it straight away. Then upgrade options are available.
Hope this helps ![]()

Around about patrol 5 or patrol 6 Josef Erdmann's (the chief eng.) rank drops from Leutnant zur See to either Oberbootsmann or Bootsmann.
The other effected characters seem to remain as Matroonsen Obergefrieter once they get "demoted" from Kapitan zur See. I found a file that refers to their ranks as well as various interior sub systems and other crewmembers (ActiveUserPlayerUnits.UPC) and tried to edit it but it had no result in game. |

I'll be totoally honest with you, Magic, I am not a skilled modder and I don't understand the SHV file structures. So what I tried was looking for other crew members with the same or similar ranks to the ones that werew wrong and copied the rank details across. It's made harder because the ranks aren't named but are grouped (eg: Seaman, Jr-NCO, Sr-NCO) followed by a number. I can't find any entry for officer ranks apart from CO.
I have neither the knowledge or ability to move any further forward with this I'm afraid. I just hope that at some stage someone who does have the neccessary skills will find this info useful. |
