Asdic report v meaning

Hi,

I've noticed the report im getting from Asdic in SH5 differs from that of earlier SH versions and i have a question regarding the meaning of its report regardless.

When Asdic is in use from the enemy, is it audiable regardless of whether your are being detected or not?

Basically, i've always considered that you are able to hear Asdic sonar pulses if within a close proximity regardless of whether they are bouncing of your hull or not...but when they are bouncing of your hull (I.e you have been detected), they quicken with pace as you reflect them sooner and the volume increases as they are directed at you.

In SH5 this does'nt seem to be the case...i can hear the asdic pings which stay the same volume and regularity before the destroyer drops its charge...there is no change!!

How should i read this??
