I couldn't care less.

But only because I can't afford to. It's overcast and snowing here.

Around 1:30 AM on the East coast.

Got my Telescope Ready...

Hopefully the snow holds off.

True that Lunar eclipses aren't as dramatic as solar ones, but are still cool events that you don't get to see that often.

Bout 830pm in NC. I swear the edge of the left side of the moon almost has a blue hint behind it, looks like a black line to the left...wierd, probably my eyes, course it's bright as hell.

Much as I love rain (something that we rarely see in Souther California) we're in the middle of a massive storm system that's basically going to sit on the state for a few more days dropping massive amounts of water; no chance of clear skies for the next few days. Didn't think it'd be another 80+ years until the next one, have seen ones in the past through my telescope but was much younger and didn't really appreciate the rarity of what I was seeing.

Errr.... There's 6 in the next 3 years alone...... 3 of which are totals

These aren't like Solar eclipses where only a very very tiny area can experience the eclipse. If you can see the moon, you see the eclipse. So about half the planet (or more if you count rotation over time into it) can see these each time they happen.

I'm thinking the 2094 date may be the next time an eclipse coincides with the solstice.

Clouds seem to have cleared out again here.

Edit:
So it would seem.
Quote:
Geoff Chester of the US Naval Observatory inspected a list of eclipses going back 2000 years. "Since Year 1, I can only find one previous instance of an eclipse matching the same calendar date as the solstice, and that is 1638 DEC 21," says Chester. "Fortunately we won't have to wait 372 years for the next one...that will be on 2094 DEC 21."

I watched it. Perfect clear full moon. I looked at my time piece and it was 0150 hrs Central when it went what I considered total. Viewing from the Panhandle of Florida.

I watched as the moon comes out from the shadows. Now she is still in semi-shade. Nothing unusual noticed. (Probably to blame my not entirely healthy eyes)
