Well, the misses is allowing me to buy a game under 60 for mah birthday. I've narrowed my choices between:
ARMA II:Operation Arrowhead+BAF DLC or STALKER SoC, Clear Sky, and CoP+ plus the complete mods. Not really sure what I want. ![]()

Well, i can say this much for the stalker series:
- open world exploration - RPG elements - horror elements - decent FPS mechanics, but not a run and gun circle straffing sort of game. Use cover or get pummeled. - Price ranges from 10 to 20 bucks. - damn good mods. I have no idea about ARMA. Never looked into it. |

Never played ARMA, but damn I love me some S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
I own them all and think they're awesome.

I'm currently playing Clear sky with the "Clear sky complete" mod. Took me a few minutes to "get into" the game, (having just played COD:MW1) but once i did i didn't want to put it down.

On one hand I get 3 games for 39.99(Call of Pripyat is 9.99 if you own the other two). On the other hand I'm a scaredy cat.
![]() And then ARMA is just ARMA. Also, I should have made a Poll.

Why don't you just go on youtube and look for gameplay clips of both games?
Whenever i can't make up my mind, that's what i usually do. edit: Call of prypiat is the 3rd and last game of the series. You'll easily kill 40 to 80 hours in SOC alone. |

Quite a different types of games really. Stalker is... well Stalker, and Arma2 an open-world infantry combat simulator with supporting elements like armor, air and artillery modeled to some degree. It's a pretty direct sequel to Operation Flashpoint(no, not the Dragon one) and Arma1, if you've ever played those. Dozens of countries use VBS, its military brother, for training, and this also shows in the "civvy version": It's pretty realistic in many ways, but also takes shortcuts in areas which you'd expect to be handled properly after playing normal tubeshooters like COD and MOH. Arrowhead improved this situation a lot, but it is still there. Normally single player campaigns are the weak point of BIS games, and multiplayer is a big strong one. I think the amount of players there is theoretically unlimited, but practically the max is around 120. There are no set gamemodes, everything is up to the missiondesigners. A mission editor is included with the game. I did find the original Arma2 campaign decent enough, if somewhat slow-paced at points. Haven't touched Arrowhead's campaign so I can't say for that. I went straight to multiplayer with that one.
The default world of Arma2 is quite a lot bigger than anything you see in Stalker, around 220 km2. Arrowhead's Takistan is slightly smaller I think. Modding has always been a strong point of the series, and Arma2 is no exception. Dev tools were released shortly after the game itself, and the game itself is built on top of modding. Even all the original content is actually mods. There's a ton of mods out there varying from increasing realism to WW2 to Star Wars. There also used to be a Stalkerish MP mission around. The OFP-series has taken most of my gaming time ever since the original OFP demo was released in 1999, so it can't be that bad edit: And now I see it's Spike who's asking. Nvm, you are familiar with Arma already ![]() |

![]() I was watching videos of OA and somehow ended up watching war footage. Which fueled my desire for OA more. ![]() I guess in truth I'll end up getting both as there is Christmas around the corner(best thing about being born in December ![]() The question is just which do I get first. ![]() Edit: Holy crap, I ended up using one smiley per sentence.

thats one awsome picture Wolfehunter!
I would have to say at a point in everyones gaming life they would have to try stalker. sure the game starts really slowly and awkwardly, but then later on you cant play anything else. the storyline in Shadow of Chernobyl is really good, but unfortunately somewhat badly translated, and less hardcore players would just skip over the important parts. |
