Default SH5 Some simple questions

Gentlemen,

SH3 Gray Wolves and SH4 with the mission disc resides on my system and is playes regularly, but although I lurk, I do visit Subsim regularly, so read with interest all of the comments about SH5, when it was first released, then saw the price and I decided not to purchase

Then at the weekend I saw a copy of SH5 offered for £14.99 and on a whim decided it was not too much of a loss to field, if it was as many have described it.

I know that if I read through every forum entry, I might find these answers, but forgive me, because this is such a popular site that it can be like trying to find one book, in a whole library, with no lights on

Installation fine, DRM ok you have to live with it, patched to date and boots up happily. The eye candy looks good, I like being able to walk through the boat and visit the crew.
However is this a simulation like previous versions, or some curious mix of an arcade game?

The manual, well more a quick start installation guide as it seems to tell you very little about commanding the sub.

Do I really have to negotiate a couple of ladders, to be inside when I order a Dive? In films the Captain may well be the last to leave the bridge, not to have to use 'female intuition' about a coming attack.

In auto targeting, what are these numbered circles on the map which inhabit lines from ship and submarine? The torpedoes seem to go off in all directions except towards the target, even when only 900 meters away.
So I try to find the TDC, which to memory is a box, with lots of dials on, that worked in all previous versions of the Sim, but seems to be missing here, has it become lost at sea?

I use the deck gun and find nothing to tell me how many shells are remaining?

Can somebody just give me some simple pointers, even if it is uninstall and stick with SH3 & SH4? Lots of searches on google throws up video snips that really show you nothing.

So I am Lost at Sea, with no paddle

Thanks

John

Default My advice

I am not going to try and answer all those questions. My advice is to not compare this game to SH3 or 4 but to accept it as a new game.

Next, I advise you to explore the many excellent mods available that, like with the former versions, make SH5 double or triple in value.

Finally, read. The questions asked are answered in reading the manual and experimenting with your sub. While sailing to your patrol zone you can try out things.

I think the TDC is an option setting in the game. I use the numbered circles myself and not the TDC. Take the time to explore the game before judging it. It is not SH3 but does have some unique possibilities, like scripting, that will give it a good future.

I have given up the previous versions to concentrate on #5 even though it isn't everything I'd hoped it would be.

I agree totally...Although SH5 is an unfinished project,it has the greatest potential ever in SH series...The game must be modded, cause other way is just unplayable and arcadish...There are already some great mods out there and more to come...
