I'm reading Richard O'Kane's Clear the Bridge,and according to the author,the engines couldn't be ran at flank speed for long periods of time because they might break.Kind of like war emergency power in an airplane.That would be a mod idea if it could be done.My guess is that going full ahead wouldn't have any adverse effects on the engines.
The Tang has reached depths of 650 feet so far in my readings,and at that time the Japanese didn't have any depth charges that could get close enough to harm the Tang.It's sad that a circling torpedo done the Tang in.It's a miracle that anyone survived the hit at all. |
