Any owners of a Playstation 3 Slim? Thoughts?

Anyone here who has a Playstation 3 Slim?

I've been thinking of perhaps getting one, one reason is that they're cheaper. And that there are some interesting games for it, Gran Turismo 5 is one reason, Metal Gear Solid another.
Big hard drive as well, 120GB on the one I'm interested in.

I read that the Slim version does not have the PS2 backwards compatibility, which doesn't matter since I have a PS2 Slim.

Seems to have gotten good reviews though.

I have the older 40 gig Ps3 that came out right before the MGS4 ps3 came out. I've updated it with a 300 gig hard since then. I have had my 40 gig for about 2 and a half years and have not had any major problems with it. Due to my room being really dusty I do have to clean the vents on it every so often or it will start to run loud, but other than that it's perfect.
I can give you a couple pro's and con's to help with your buying decision.

Pros
:

An awesome line up of First party games.
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted 1 and 2
Infamous 1 and 2
God Of War 3(Plus the God Of war 1&2 remake)
GT5
Valkyria Chronicles(Awesome Strategy game, although most might not like it due to the JRPG aspects)
Killzone 2 and 3
Twisted Metal
Socom 4

It's getting awesome 3rd party support too.
Games like Medal of Honor, Dead Space 2, Mafia 2, Portal 2 all are getting exclusive Ps3 content.
There is also the Ps3 exclusive Rockstar game set in the 70's that has to be shown off.

With the addition of Ps3 move, it will be like an HD wii.
Built in wifi and blue tooth.
Free online
Built in BluRay player
The failure rate is nowhere near an issue as it is with the 360, especially on the slims
At any point you can swap out the HDD in your ps3 with a bigger one, without voiding the warranty. Any 3.5 Sata will do. So if you find a 500 gig drive for cheap, you can easily upgrade your ps3.
You can then get a hard drive enclosure and turn your old ps3 HDD into a external drive

Cons

There hasn't been Ps2 backwards compatibility since
When they do break, if your warranty is up, it'll cost you $150 dollars to get your Ps3 repaired.
Most older multiplatform games are crappy ports.
The slim doesn't look as aesthetically pleasing as the fat models do in my opinion.

Conclusion: Great purchase, especially if you want to get into Blu ray movies. It is ideally cheaper in the long run compared to a 360 due to the wifi being built in, and the online aspect being free. With the price tag being so low right now I would jump on at any chance I get.

Thanks Spike88.

The PS2 incompatibility does not matter since I have one.

Good thing with PlayStation is that the G25 works with it, it even works on the PS2 with Gran Turismo 4 , unlike with the XBOX360 which is unsupported.

I think I'll wait a little longer, first I'll have to repair my broken XBOX360, and then sell it.

The place I'm thinking of getting it from has plenty of PS3 Slim's in stock so there's no worry there.

Slims right now should not be that hard to find. I know during major releases(like God of War) they are, but you should be fine right now.

Yeah the G25 and the G27 work with the Ps3.

The problem with the G27 right now is that GT5 prologue wont let you use the paddle shifters, and the gear box handle can only go up to 6, so if you have 7 speed cars(like the Ford GT) you can't get into 7th. But there is talk that Logitech and Polyphany are working together to make sure that the G27 works with GT5.

Another great feature about the Ps3 is the fact that it isn't region locked, so you can play games from any region(Which means importing games straight from Japan, if that is your thing). Although this does not apply to PS1 games.

If you get a PS3, do it for the exclusives. Multi-platform games tend to be 360 ports.

Considering it as well, just for GT5 & MGS, but a new TV would be needed as well.

And since Sony have removed the capability to run Linux , there's no reason not to go for the slim now.

This is why it's a good thing that most developers are stating to develop games for the Ps3 first.

They are? As far as I know, 360 is usually the lead platform. Didn't think that was going to change.

Would be good if it did though. Better quality on PS3 and 360 wouldn't suffer too much. Prolly best if they developed a PS3 and 360/PC version alongside, but that's not always an option.

That won't matter for me, tried Linux for a short time. My brain exploded, too complicated.

No space for a new TV, I have a 19'', at least it's better than the 14'' I used to have.

That's what I gathered from the E3 2010, when 90% of the developers were running their games on the PS3 for their conferences.

Especially when Gabe Newell said that Portal 2 will be best on the Ps3(out of the consoles, PC version will obviously be the best)

My ps3 ran on two 24inchish CRTV's until the TV in my girlfriend and I's bedroom crapped out. I think I left it on after playing Ps3, and it wouldn't turn on after that. So we go to Best Buy and I convince her that we should get the 37 inch LCD we now have. Mind you it came from the money Financial Aid gave her for school supplies.

I think I might wait and see if they will bundle a PS3 with Gran Turismo 5.

There will be a Titanium Blue 160gig slim with a titanium blue ps3 controller bundle, but as of yet it's only confirmed for Japan.

There's a chance that my brother and I could switch consoles. Just have to check some things on the 360 when I get it back from repairs.

Would be the cheap way to get a PS3.
A non slim version though.
