Default Nasty Noises

Not sure whether, or not this is the forum in which to post this, but since the "Mods" forums seem to be where the brains hang-out, here goes.

I've been away from Silent Hunter for quite a while, but, like a lot of people I suppose, decided to "come home."

I installed SH3 + the immaculate GWX3 Gold, SH Commander and JSGME.

I then installed a few mods - NONE OF THEM SOUND MODS, except "No Ring Ring Mod by Melendir"

I began a patrol, just to re-acquaint myself with the game and, on engaging my first target, suddenly rediscovered one of the problems which had taken me away from SH3 over a year ago.

Basically, I get an unexpected - almost intermitent - loud bass-heavy humming noise, which blots out all game sounds. The closest I can come to describing it is a monotonous version of an electronic Mongol throat-singer.

It only seems to appear when target ships are in play,

I have a Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Audio card with a 5 speaker set up, but set to stereo headphones (The Mem Sahib likes to watch TV while I win the Battle of the Atlantic for the Third Reich.)

Any similar experiences, or ideas, please? It really hurts my ears when it happens.
