USS Murphy

Saw a thing on military channel about the Destroyer USS Murphy which was cut in half by a friendly tanker while looking for a suspected U boat approaching the convoy, pretty wild.Even more so they salvaged the stern section, fitted her with a new bow section(ship was literally sliced in half amidships, just behind bridge) and she went back to war.The original bow section is still in the Atlantic and the show had divers going down to her.wild stuff...

I saw that long ago. Almost strange, they did a tribute to the men that died in the bow. In one sense the ship is sunk with a tribute to the fallen and the other half went back to war.

Sort of like Stonewall Jackson, two burial sites, one for his lost arm and a later one for his body..
