The last 3 patrols have been great. Seems from Rabual to Truk lots of action. Before my last patrol ran into 2 heavy CA TF with Tones, Mogami's and others. Seldom see the Tones.
Went to Truk. I never base rape, but got close to check with radar. Saw a ship I have never seen, so decided to try to go in and ID it. Came through the upper NW channel and then the board lit up. They picked me up on radar and 2 DD's came at me fast, so I had to head back out as not to get caught in the shallows. I then went north and came through the north channel. There was 3 seperate TF there and the usual large group of capital ships in the shallows. You can see the large TF in the north channel. Only problem combined there were 4 Yamato class BB's there..lol, but I ignored those to use torps on other ships. Sank 2 carriers, one Fuso and several CA's. I would've exceeded 200K tons if the Hiryu would've sunk, but last 3 torps weren't enough. Took out a few merchants with DG there. Normally it's easy, so I don't rape. I think I had up to 12 escorts on me at times. One of the TF showed stopped, so I thought it docked, but as I entered it went slow and then all it's escorts joined the many others. Still, got little damaged thanks to rough seas. I could never get all the ships to show up. There were about 20 more at Dublon and several more down south and others in the west shallows and these didn't show on the SS. Also ran into 2 groups of escorts outside of Truk patrolling. I assume around 100 ships in all. Counted 5 carriers, many Kongo's, 2 Fuso's, almost every CA type in the game, a few I've never even seen. First time I've ran into the Hiryu other than Midway. So Sep. 28, 43. This one is worth the rape. ![]() Anybody ID this ship. Couldn't get close enough to ID it and wasn't going in 40ft of water with a pack of escorts on me. Obvious a light CA, strange box on the back. Not sure how it's spelled, but maybe the Oyada class, a few are close, but not sure. ![]() Last edited by Armistead; 06-27-10 at 12:53 AM. |

that is indeed an Oyodo CL. The Chitose does look similar from a distance, but the give away is the funnel..the Oyodo has the modern looking curved base (2 exhaust feeding to 1 funnel I believe?) while the Chitose has a straight funnel.
nice find! oh and first post ![]() |

Here is a Chistose, another ship I seldom see, but have sunk a few. I've only seen them in two places with RSRD, the invasion of the Philippines above the San Bern and one coming out of Truk in a TF.

Hmmmmm... I've been thinking about a vacation. I bet Truk is an excellent choice for early 42'. Thanks for reminding me about that little seaside resort!
