I have an Acer Aspire One model 532h netbook. Lovely little thing and what I use all the time now.
However you can create a recovery DVD but you need to attach an optical drive. I don't have one and won't buy a drive just for that sake. So is there a way I can fool my system to create an image on the HD of my big PC from which I can burn it onto DVD, or better yet, access the DVD writer on my big PC and do it all via the network,,, |

I've wondered if I could use a thumb drive for the same purpose on my netbook. I know that there are Linux distributions now that will boot from one. I'll have a look around and see what I can dredge up.

Okay, here's a boot-from-flashdrive solution:
http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-9...-t-boot-up#258 [EDIT] Grah! A 'success' comment there had me thinking that someone had managed to install from the flash drive, but he had a USB DVD drive hooked up so that he could use the installation disc. *dang* [FURTHER EDIT] Here, have a look at this, Xabba. http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3065-insta...from-a-usb-key Is that close to what you are looking for?
