Comment section of the article.

These days, the Russians have to come to San Francisco to get a taste of Communism.

Aye, the Soviets went big on ASMs and SAMs with that girl. Pretty reliant on her Kamov for ASW though IIRC, although Jack Ryan/TLAM Strike will know more about that.

A lean, mean looking ship that lives up to being named after the Viking founders/conquerors of the Russian state Also worth mentioning that her famous 1899 namesake was built in Philly, so it's most appropriate for her to come visit the US and pay tribute. Here's to hoping also that this sort of friendship leads to more cooperation on piracy, where both Russian and US navies are concerned.

If she sticks around the West coast and heads south afterwards, I might be able to catch sight of her (I'll be in SoCal the following week).

One punch in the balls from the Astute and she'd be down and out

Frankly, I still don't understand why in the 80s they didn't just build a few more of these babies rather than playing around with the Sovremennys. Of course, a Slava with its S-300 SAM and P-500/-1000 suite will cost more (and yes Zdhanov will have to retool or be given up), but then you get economies of scale, and there is simply no comparison between the combat potential of a Slava and a Sovremenny.

Heck, maybe if they bit the bullet and went up another couple of thousand tons, they might even have found the room to cram the full Polinom suite in and they won't even have to play with the Udaloys, and they can still keep the ASW missiles once the Vodopads come out in the mid-80s.

Naw she was reliant on her escorts for ASW, I think they intended her single Kamov for OTH targeting. The range of the N-12 is just about the max range of the Ka-27.

For more info on weapons like the N-12 go here:
http://www.ausairpower.net/region.html

Its in several good articles, its worth the hunting around.

That looks like a fun game! I'll have to check it out

In real life though it's good to see the Russians making a come back as a more open society. That warship would be cool to see in San Fran when it arrives.
