Default Player profile, captains, medals, stats...

I remember playing Red Storm Rising (and other microprose titles) how you had a captain hall of fame feature, now I wonder if there is something like that in Silent Hunter 5?

Profile. (your player profile with the stats of the information below)
Campaign. (your campaign progress and status)
Captain. (your captain's achievement and medals)

I start my first campaign (select date and port) and then proceed to create my first captain, this captain might survive two tours and you will then have the option of making a new captain, select a new crew and continue in the same campaign after you have lost your previous boat and/or captain.

All this could go into a hall of fame for captains, who did most tours, sank the most ships and so on, your player profile could have an overall status as well, tonnage sank, campaigns completed and so on.

If the player can effect the campaign it would be nice to be able to continue with a new captain if one is lost, might suck to loose a captain but you could still continue and not loose the campaign progress.

Falcon 4.0 had something like it, though you never had pilots but all status was tied to your profile.

Most of this might be doable with third party utilities like "SH3 Commander" maybe but the campaign progress would be difficult to keep if its only tied to one captain...

Looking forward to Silent Hunter 5

No. SH2 never had a campaign to continue - just a bunch of scripted missions.

Me, I'm less interested in the campaign continuing in the same boat than I am playing the captain.

Ahh, the glory days of Microprose...unfortunately never to be repeated.

I really miss the way games like F15 Strike Eagle (I, II, III) and Gunship (2000) handled player careers. To this day I still remember the screens and the ranks/medals presentations for each.

Great stuff. Dunno why it can't be done like that anymore.
